That is of course assuming you're in the NY area... Munich is a bit too far (and wet) to drive.

I'm well pissed that this wasn't available when I ordered my E93

Does anyone know how much the dealer installed option is going to be in the Uk.

Thanks

Cost on E92/E93 depends on whether it's the version that works with the 6CD changer. It's £380 for version without the changer, £400 with. That includes installation - the cost shown in the full e90 accessories brochure is parts only. See attached doc for details.....

BMW iPod Connector New iPod Connector.doc

Please note it does work with Professional Sat NAv as well despite not being mentioned in the doc.

Does anyone know whether the USB option allows movies to be viewed through the Sat Nav Screen as standard and if not what you can do to get it working?

The Interface does NOT work with the cd changer. There is no version that works WITH it. It's one or the other. Period.

Thanks for that.

It looks like BMW is about to make another 400 quid out of me

The document I posted came straight from a UK dealer and in there it clearly says it does work with option 672 - for an extra £20. Keith is in UK. I think at one point it didn't work but it's been updated so it does now.

I'm new to this and only posting what I'm sent by BMW to try and help other members - so would appreciate a friendlier tone.

Mr. Spira gets his information first hand, and while I'm sure there are occasional errors in the info, he is generally spot on. The dealer installed iPod adaptor uses the CD changer input, and thus you cannot have both. No one has heard otherwise, but perhaps you have some new information.

This is not to be confused with the new factory installed (6FL) option which does not use the CD changer input and allows them to peacefully coexist. Maybe your dealer is confusing the two. But the latter cannot be dealer installed, it is factory only.

LedZep, I'm only going by the document a UK dealer sent me, which seems to imply that on an e90 it will work with both if you pay it bit extra. May be it will work but not concurrently.

For example, may be they have changed it so that if any CD's are loaded they would get precedence over the iPod control - that would not a massive software change by any stretch of the imaginaton and would be possible using a firmware upgrade. .

I don't know, but whether Spirais is an expert or not and whether he is right or wrong doesn't excuse his tone. This forum should be a friendly place.

I'm sure Keith will find the answer in due course. Whatever it is, I wish him the best of luck after missing out on the factory fit.

Don't misunderstand, I hope that you are correct and that you are able to get the system to work that way. Just cautioning that it might not be true (perhaps your dealer is also mistaking the two).

I'm sure that Jspira did not intend to have an unfriendly tone - he is one of our best members and is always very helpful. Many of us here sometimes take an impatient 'tone' because we see the same questions repeatedly and some posters often argue with erroneous information.

I hope you do get the best of both! If you learn that this is possible you should let us know. Good luck!

The document does NOT say that. It indicates there are two versions, one if you have the changer and one if you don´t. Nowhere does it say it actually allows the changer to WORK. If it´s like the 6er, it probably includes the cover for where the CD changer used to be or a different cable or something like that.

Before you start to criticize tone (and you seem to confuse friendly or unfriendly with " just the facts"), I recommend you reread the document more carefully and see what it really says.

Well everyone else, myself included, recognizes him as an expert but you are new so you are excused for that gaffe.

However, if a short, factual e-mail pointing out facts is not friendly or does not make you feel good, well, I don't know what to say.

Mr Spira is busy helping tons of people so he has time to state facts, it would appear, and move on. Not hold your hand.

Like I said, I'm just trying to be helpful to another member. I'm not on some power trip.

However, it would seem strange to me that BMW would not say in their own document that the CD Changer would stop working if you fitted the interface - but may be your right. Either way, Keith's original question asked for the cost of the dealer fit in the UK - which I was able to provide with some useful documentation. If he has the changer then the option is £400, if not £380 - like I said.

I apologise profusely for such a terrible post! But if you honestly think that the following statement is in a balanced tone then that really does surprise me!

BMW3FXD - The liklihood of your salesperson being wrong is far greater than that of Mr. Spira being wrong. He literally earns his living knowing about the technical options and specifications on BMWs. Many salesmen barely take an interest in the cars they sell, and are prone to misunderstanding and/or misrepresenting information about options.

The post that seems to have offended you was simply a statement of fact, with emphasis to avoid any misunderstanding. Don't take a short simple answer for a 'toned' response - lest ye receive just that. Several of us here are more than capable of being quite nasty, and don't suffer fools.

There are no hard feelings from my point of view, but if you persist in making an issue of it, we shall release the hounds.

You mistake capitalization and EMPHASIS for tone. Too many incorrect things are posted and I am simply trying to make CLEAR what is CORRECT and what is INCORRECT.

.
Well, let´s not put my living on it. LED is correct in that I write about BMW´s technology for several BMW publications and I seem to be the only one doing it consistently right now. However, it´s something I do out of interest - the renumeration would barely cover a few iTunes tracks.

True enough, but I took some license for the sake of point. When I was a semi-pro photographer it was also the same situation - but it paid for the equipment at least. Oh - and afforded me great access to things normal people only dream about! (like the photo I shot used in my avatar).

What do you mean "thank you"? Thanks to Mr. Smartypants Spira here I have had to order a whole new car... just to have more toys!

Thanks! At some point in time it became anamorphically stretched, as they continue to play weird games with the website.

Shooting rock concerts was always a blast. I have quite a nice private collection of rock star photos. It was great when the road manager would come to the stage and ask me "would you be able to come backstage and do me a favor... I need some band photos...".

It was also during an assignment that I met your famed countryman.

Love your avatar! Still have the magazine cover!
