You can buy 335i's for under $20k, with about 40-50k miles. So that argument is pointless.

More and more people are getting into these cars for very cheap.

I can't wait to get our products released and get this show on the road. Great job Mike! Can't wait to see round 2.

Never seen a 335i with 40,000 miles under 20k. But thats not the point. The point is don't buy a car that you cannot afford. Just because you can afford a 20k car does not mean you can by a BMW. ALL parts and maintenance is expansive for BMW, maybe you should stick with hondas and cheap ebay parts for them. I hate seeing complainers and lil bitches crying about how its soo expansive to work on BMW or buying parts, YOU BOUGHT A BMW. Thats whats wrong with our country right now, people buy shit they cannot afford.

As far as 2400 for 2 billet turbos being highway robbery do some research.. for other platforms shuch as Porsche, Evo, GTR etc they are MUCH MUCH MORE $$$.. a single billet upgrade for an evo is 1500-2000.. GTR 5000.00 and Porsche 3200.00.. These are very fairly priced IMO..

Mike
Really? I had no idea.

Why would a billet upgrade be cheaper for a 997tt than an r35?

Well, if you don't go to the dealer, BMW's are quite affordable.

Not as affordable as a honda when not going to the dealer... but still nothing like what a BMW dealer asks.

Think of it this way... See all the old BMW's driving around? They're usually not operated by the wealthiest of people.

Old M3's (e36 and e46) are cars for high school guys.
e36 M3's are in the single digit thousands
e46 M3's are in the teen thousands

Kids can afford to buy and maintain these cars.

But maybe I am wrong.

AWDs post didn't show the meth was used on that one dyno...maybe that was a mistake?

I knew high schoolers that over the course of working a few years while living at home put together that kind of money.

Look at the prices...

+1, This sounds like a great setup and its not that expensive. I am expecting 475ish all the way to redline...if not more. He should be able to make that with a dual cm7nozzle or a single cm10. If not, it looks like its back to the drawing board for me.

You do realize that when you buy a car with that kind of miles that you are gonna have to dump another 2-5k into it to be running correctly. I know this because I have owned a 96 328is and a 01 330ci. Both of which cost me a FORTUNE after I hit 100k miles. Honestly its cheaper to buy a newer car with a CPO and dump it at 100k. I bought my 96 328is with 102k for 6500 and put atleast that in it by the time I hit 155k. Its stupid unless you work on the car yourself. Labor is what kills you.

Yep. Most high schoolers (kids) do live at home.
Hence, old M3's can be [and are] purchased and operated by kids.
And there's nothing wrong with that. These are old cars after all.

I've had the opposite experience with old used cars (I love old beaters).
Spend next to nothing on the initial purchase.
The money spent maintaining the car for years never added up to the cost of new or CPO at the time that I got it.

I do mixed work. Some of my own, and the annoying stuff I take to mom&pop shops.
Most cases, other than timing belts, or when bolts are rusted shut, I look at 'cost of repairs' as 'cost of parts + annoyance of taking the time'.

I guess you dont like your cars in good running order. Either that or you have had great luck. I have had to replace plugs, coils, lines, clutch, exhaust, suspension, the trim(always falls down and peels off on older cars), the interior is shit and is sagging down in the ceiling. Thats what I have experienced, not fun at all. The only money I have put into my 335i is mods. No maintenence, besides oil every 4k miles. But besides that, I will always go CPO from now on. Everybody is diff.

I would consider that a very small (and cheap) to-do list.
When it comes to beaters, I stick to aftermarket replacements

But yeah, if you got all BMW original parts (and went to the dealer), you'd get hurt.

You cannot honestly tell me that replacing a clutch(even aftermarket) + labor is cheap.

Sachs has one for $240.
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...2K7020601.html

Then spend a day of your weekend on it.
Or drop another $250 at a small neighborhood shop if you're too busy.

I dont know where you get work done on your car but even the local shops labor rates around me are 100 and hour. You think the can drop the old clutch and get the new one back in in 2.5 hrs?? Thats some quick work.
