I had an issue the other day that got me a bit scared. I updated my AP, installed 2.02STD and it ran perfectly. Later on in the day I decided to try switching to 2.02v2 to test it out since I'm MT. After it read 100% flash complete, it gave me an error and said it had to go through recovery. It went through recovery without any hiccups. I checked the map, and it said 2.02STD. I clicked change map, and selected 2.02v2. It then kept on telling my that "Vehicle cannot be identified". I could not start my car, and it did the thing where it just keeps turning. I ended up uninstalling the tune, and reinstalling 2.02STD and it worked fine again.

After that ordeal, I'm a bit hesitant to mess with any maps until it's out of beta. Rob asked me to test something tonight so I'll try that, but I'm going to give myself ample time in case I need to reflash.

Glad I have an 08, the 07 interface sounds like no fun.

I'm on a PC and don't have any issues with installing the beta firmware. My problem is that my AP is stuck in recovery mode. It keeps saying that there is no tune installed on the vehicle. Did you get your issues solved? If so how?

What you would do is to delete the map that didn't work from the AP, download the correct one from Cobb website and transfer the map to the AP, then install the correct map to your car.

It looks like you have the map that is for the other DME.

My 2 cents.

I have 335xi steptronic. I normally switch back and forth between 2.02/STD 91 and 93 octane.

91 map for driving around, and switch to 93 map when feel like having fun.

And from time to time, I like to play with the big surge from 2.01/93 map (my kids love it).

3 maps, 3 characters. Love it

I sent you a pm. I can try and help you troubleshoot but it would probably be easier if you called me because the email would be way to long to type.

My maps are the correct maps. Unless the website is wrong.

I wondered the same thing, if some of these people having problems are getting the map for a different DME. There are about 8-10 choices available on the website for a 335i, like for example I know my car takes the "IJEOS" codes. If you try to load a wrong one, it will warn you that it doesn't match.

Just a thought that might help some...

BTW I run 2.02 std and it is great, I was fine with 2.01 although it was a little more throttle sensitive it wasn't anything I couldn't control with my foot. 2.02 std feels similar to 2.01 just requires a little more gas pedal but I think the power is the same when you get on it.

Looks like I was able to replicate my problem by changing maps to the SAME map and it did it after the 2nd flash. Had to Uninstall and Reinstall to fix the problem.

Looks like Rob's going to be coming again next week to diagnose the issue lol.

I had the same problem, but the latest firmware 1856 worked fine for me. It would throw a communication error right after 100% when changing maps and go into recovery mode. I'm glad Rob will take a look at it in person.

when you switch maps, is it better to first uninstall the current map then reinstall the preferred one? sorta like installing new drivers on the PC? or makes no difference and most of ya'll flash over the current map? i would assume the first route would be safer.

Yeah my test was after I already had the 2.02STD map installed, I tried to "change" to 2.02STD (you can flash to same map over and over). First time it worked fine. 2nd time it gave me the error. I then had to uninstall and reinstall. I did notice that when the error happened, the pump sound did not turn off. Usually after 100%, pump turns off, everything is quiet at the end. When it errors, pump just stays on forever and gives you error/recovery.

I waited a while to even upgrade to 2.02 so I started on the latest beta firmware.

Does not sound normal to me.. Let's go through some of the basics:
1. Did you download the AP Manager software to your PC?
2. Does the software load and successfully detect your AP?
3. Do any files display in the left pane of the software? Stage 0 Stock 201, Stage 1, etc?
4. Did you follow the tutorial video from the Cobb website for firmware updates with the beta checkbox checked?
5. My firmware updates typically take a few to download, then there are a series of loads / restarts which take another few mins.

If you cannot get to this point, it might be better to call Cobb tomorrow during business hours...

When you want to switch maps you don't have to uninstall the Cobb. Just go into tune and then it will connect with your ECU and bring up which maps you currently have on your Cobb. Once you pick the map desired it will the ECU will overwrite the flash of the old map with the new map. It literally takes a couple minutes to do.

Hey friend,

i know the steps to reflash, i was just curious on whether or not an entirely clean install would be less risky of a flash going wrong vs flashing over a currently installed map. Im sure uninstalling and reinstalling a fresh map would take a couple minutes to do as well.

thanks for the update. I have yet re-installed my Cobb AP since I was able to uninstall it. I will wait until there is a full release and they work out the bugs. I do not want to be in the same situation I was in the first go around with this system.
