I hiked the area from the ocean to the hills above Rainbow Tunnel and the Golden Gate Bridge back in April. Spectacular views.

I can see a cannon. One of many Civil War re-enactment? Ft. Stevens maybe? I have to dig more and get back.

You are on the right track, but the photo is not in the United States.

Much earlier than 1812. I'll give you one last hint and also another photo from the same area. If you don't get it this time, I'll put you out of your misery!

Hint: Famous battle in Canadian history. It took place in the 1700's this week, hence the reenactment. The additional photo is of the same area but the cannons may not be from that famous battle.

Good luck!

You got it!

I walked through there on my way to old town Quebec. A woman approached me, as they sometimes do , and said, "I'm doing a survey about the Plains of Abraham. Will you give me 5 minutes?" I said I don't know a thing about it but okay. When I got back to my hotel I did some research. That battle was pivotal in Canada history. I have no idea how one battle can make such a difference but apparently it did. Otherwise, Quebec would still be speaking French. Kidding of course. Quebec kept it's French but France lost control of Quebec not long after this battle.

The Plains of Abraham is a stunning sight to see. The added plus for me was to see people in period costumes for the reenactment and hearing from the survey taker on the importance of that battle in Canadian history. And of course, Quebec City itself is so amazing. My wife and I had a great time visiting your neck of the woods.

Québec is my favorite town. I stop there very often. What I do, is stay across the river in the Town of Lévis, park the bike at the motel and take the ferry across. I walk everywhere and sample all the bistros. Pics from a few years back.
