To be clear: new models still retain REST, just as a secondary function to the SYNC/ALL button. Last edited by jaredixon; 07-18-2012 at 11:01 PM.. Reason: REST button explanation |

Seem like I have hill decent control. When I go down a hill and (auto) shift to 3rd it holds or tries to hold the speed. The cars around me are riding their brakes, not me.

regarding how HDC works: Hill Descent Control (HDC), a driver assistant system in four-wheel drive vehicles, can be activated with the press of a button. When travelling at less than 35 km/h, HDC assists you by reducing you to a constant speed of approx. 7 km/h, or 6.5 km/h when reversing. The brake lights come on automatically to warn any drivers situated behind your BMW. The accelerator and tempomat can be used to vary speed between crawling speed and 25 km/h, but if you want, you can of course move faster or slower: HDC then goes into standby mode. It is deactivated once your speed goes above 60 km/h. HDC is particularly helpful when driving on changeable, loose or slippery downhill surfaces, such as gravel, snow or grass. Together with ABS, it ensures excellent stability while still preventing the wheels from locking if you apply the brakes on a slope. This prevents the vehicle from skidding and permits you to retain control over the steering. When HDC deactivates, it goes into fade-out mode, gradually reducing braking force and giving you enough time to again take full control of your speed. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...t_control.html |

Could this be confusing two different features? Hill Descent Control probably has no application if the car is in 3rd gear, since HDC operates only at very low speeds. On the other hand, speed control does hold the speed even on descent. I believe it does this by using the brakes and not by engine braking. Maybe someone knows if the brake lights are on in that situation.

i see................. better than nothing...
(i'm the process of boasting features with a fellow co-worker who just got a 2013 hyundai azera and i just bought a 2007 335i w/premium package..) although mine is 5~6 years older, i'm finding the bmw matching and surpassing a brand new car that costs $12K more haha nice to see BMW is way ahead of its time. |

In the summer, I use it daily. I usually leave my car in a commuter rail parking lot. Last week, when it was in the high 90s (around 35 degrees C), it was nice to come back to a car that was only 90F degrees, rather than 130F (55C)or 140F (60C). When I chose to use the AC, it cooled off a lot faster, but on most days, it's tolerable to drive the car with the windows and sunroof open when the interior isn't superheated.

I'm amazed there's confusion and surprise over this... Guys - the engine needs to be running to spin the AC compressor. NO, a little timed venting doodad is not going to start your car at a preprogrammed time with no one around. The factory won't even let us roll up the windows from the fob due to liability...

When you put the roof down on an e93 while the heater is running on level 3 for instance, the climate controls change and the way air is distributed into the cabin becomes more savage and you get heated up quicker compared to the roof being up + heater on. Hard to explain but the car has a mind of it's own and i love it. Ze Germans know their stuff.

Feels weird getting into other cars now and knowing its not gonna follow at a constant distance regardless of speed as long as my set speed is faster than the car infront of me.

if you're in a dark area, but still want your car to provide you with equivalent of "follow me home" lighting: when you're about to exit your car, 1) remove the key fob from ignition. 2) Flash your high beams (by pulling back on the turn signal stalk) 3) Your low beams should come on. (My cars light switch was in the 0 position so idk if it works if you have it set to the automatic position) 4) exit your car, close the door and lock with fob. 5) You'll have maybe 20 - 25 seconds where your low beams will stay on even after you've left the car. They go out on their own after 20 seconds. |

I panicked when I accidentally invoked this feature at a car dealership several years ago because I couldn't turn them off and was stressing that one of the salespeople would notice and be like WTF? |

Turn on the range screen and start pumping in gas. You will see the range numbers will dial up in the real time as you are filling up the tank.
