well nothing's leaked water so it was time to put back all the normal stuff in the storage compartment.
I was going to put the headliner back in, but the instant I touched the fabric on the sunroof panels it came undone and is now hanging.
So I'm going to have to wait for that to dry and then figure out how to glue it back up without pulling the sunroof to get at it properly.
I ordered a replacement bumper comfort access aerial. All the wires in the hatch check out. Comfort access will open the hatch, but only if I put the fob down next to the bumper. Fob works fine everywhere else in the car and has a new battery. Both fobs do the same.

So has anyone taken one apart?
I'm assuming it's just a RFID antenna coil in there, or antenna on a PCB. I guess we find out next week.

Glass cleaner on the ready. That’s some next level beyond my normal emergency kit!

And my hatch is getting wonky donkey now too. Great. Terrific.

The battery on my '99 F150 lasted until 2014. And my '99 Honda motorcycle to 2015! I kept the bike on a maintainer though. So I know batteries can last a long time. One would think the BMW placement in the trunk would increase longevity, but maybe my car just likes a new battery every once in awhile. This last one only went 6 years. The E90 sits longer now between drives.

Anyway, the "810" battery (current part number), I still think is the best deal. It's 90 AH / 720 CCA. I searched and searched for an aftermarket battery with the same specs and couldn't find one. I bought my battery at BMW of Sterling for $199 (w/core charge), which for a big ass battery like that is a decent price. It's hard to find a 90 amp-hour battery in a Group 48/H6 size case. For modern BMWs, reserve capacity is more important than cranking amps IMO.

Shit, I just realized I didn't reset the ECU for it... Lol.

I’ve use fabric spray on e91 sunroof liners before and it’s perfect.

There is an some type of antenna/module in the spoiler if that helps.

Came to an interesting realization tonight...

For over two years now, I've had some odd behavior with the rear defrost that I assumed might somehow be normal or have some reason behind it. The top section of window never defrosts- even after 20+ minutes of it being on. I assumed it might be normal until tonight when I noticed that it causes the third brake light to stay behind a foggy section of glass which isn't optimal. So surely that can't be right?

And then I noticed...my band parking pass from when I was a freshman is on the top corner of the window and covers exactly the number of defrost strips that aren't working.

Very strange considering it shouldn't be conductive...but whatever. I guess it's about time I take it off anyway. I've been milking it because it lets me get away with parking places I shouldn't.

The only other thing I noticed is that there's a missing strip between the ones that are and are not working...maybe the top section is used for an antenna or something like on some other cars? I dunno. There's no risk of it being fused to the window...it's not super sticky or anything of the sort...I just didn't expect it to potentially cause those issues. I'll be sure to test it whenever I get a moment.

Edit: all of that was pointless. It's supposed to be like that. It's for the AM radio. I personally would rather have a fully defrosted window than AM radio but whatever.

yeah, I'm going to go to the parts store today and get 3m headliner adhesive. Once it's glued back on I can put the interior back in and that will be nice.

The diversity module lives in the spoiler. When the wiring fails apparently all of your comfort access things quit working.
but I only have issue with the rear hatch not unlocking, unless I hold the fob down by the bumper.

I have some "new to me" wheels style 397s coming. My old worn out 285s are just crappy looking and one is cracked (and quit frankly I don't like the looks of). I found these 397s in good condition with minimal wear. Plus ill need new tires before winter, so its a win win.

Moving from 17s to 18s will be nice too. I'll grab these babies next week sometime.

today's how hard can it be? headliner repair.
turns out about 6 hours worth, with 2 hours of that being real hard work.
remove all glass
then undo the fasteners and finangle the sun shades out.
Spend two hours scraping old foam and glue off sun shades. I found spraying it with resolve and using the shopvac hose as a chisel to scrape with the most effective. It sucks. You shouldn't do it.
Then carefully glue your fresh from the washing machine headliner fabric back on with some 3m headliner adhesive.
All while terrified you're gonna wrinkle it so you stick cardboard under it so you can do it 2 inches at a time.
then just reassemble and adjust.
After you clean, grease and treat everything you touched.
because rules.
I got a few glue bumps, maybe 3. Not bad for a first time ever attempt. It's acceptable.

LOL.

worth it.
The sun shade fabric had always been a touch loose on one side, then I made it worse with attempted cleaning.
I can't tolerate falling down headliner.

today's goal is to reassemble the interior above the belt line.

you may as well.

it needs cleaned and maintenance I guarantee it.

it was disgusting up there.
maybe save yourself the headache of water leak and pulling the whole headliner.

misery loves company.
It was pretty obvious how to take it apart after getting the glass out. Cleaning the old foam off the panels was the worst part.

Do you have a service manual of some sort that details the disassembly? Maybe I could do once it gets cooler here. Heavens knows I love taking my car apart and putting it back together again.

Taped the ground wire with some of that sticky automotive cloth wire harness tape, then wrapped the exposed wires of the harness with more cloth tape. Stuffed some foam rubber in the body side of the harness cover to water seal it.

That should hold it for another few hundred thousand...

I swear we're on parallel trajectories. In addition to our automotive proclivities, watching the Hummingbird fights from the porch is one of my regular summer afternoon activities. (Crappy pic cause can't focus thru the screen but they're goin at it )
