THey mean the "Kick down" feature. If you push your foot down in manual mode to full throttle and feel the fake button under the pedal depress it will downshift to the appropriate gear and you will be at 100% full throttle.

Or the other is when you are in DS or D and you abruptly jab the throttle to force a kick down.

Really? How far back (how many songs)?

I'm definitely gonna give this a try on the way home today.

Thanks! this was killing me! I was convinced that the cover would just pop up at random times!

I tired "rewinding satellite radio" and it didn't work. I pressed the rewind button and it just changed channels.

That's because you don't understand it's purpose. The purpose is to let the driver know of possible ice on the road when the ambient temperature is above freezing. The car will indicate the condition and alert you of it far more quickly than you checking the temperature reading on the gauge cluster.

It has actully worked for me a few times and saved my car (that and the stability control).

I know this has already been mentioned at least once but I'm posting it again because I love this feature so much:

Moving your finger over the 1-6 preset buttons (without pressing the button) shows you what the presets are set to on the screen. LOVE IT!!

You don't use the hard buttons; the controls are via the idrive menus/icons within the Sat Radio section.

Seems to go back no further than to when you turned on sat radio and tuned a station; so if you change channels you lose the history. Not sure how long the buffer is if you've been listening to a channel for a while.

I'm new to the E90, but not new to BMW. For all the guys without water temp gauges, watch for the segmented lines, at redline on your tach as the engine warms. That's the way it was on my '04 530i. I might be wrong.

On LCI models to reset the next service mileage and date:
1. Insert your key fob.
2. Press the Start button but don't turn the ignition on (foot off the brake for auto or clutch for 6MT)
3. Once the xmas light show and dongs are done, press on the brake and hold the trip odometer reset for a few seconds until you will see the service menu on the dash
4. Use your stalk to navigate the service menu, use BC button to select an item you want to reset - press and hold BC button once you see the RESET option for a service item you selected.

If you put your mirror adjust switch to the right (disabling the reverse mirror), put the car in reverse, then move the switch to the left (enabling reverse mirror), the mirror still moves up after shifting out of reverse...very confusing and annoying seeing the sky after starting to drive.

Are you sure this is available for pre-LCI iDrives? That only seems possible with a hard drive.

I discovered a second cigarette lighter socket in the passenger's footwell vacuuming the other day. Where'd that come from? It's COMPLETELY out of the way.

I'm pretty sure someone has mentioned this somewhere in the 80 posts but if not:

1. If you insert your key fob, turn on the engine, turn off the engine, pull the key fob out, put your foot back on the brake and press the start button again..you can drive without the key fob.

2. Pre-September 2006 e90's don't have thumb-rests on the sport package steering wheel.

3. Also Pre-September 2006 e90's don't have the option to choose whether to have the inner low beams as they're DRL or have your Angel Eyes as DRLs, along with a number of other miscellaneous options to chose from in your instrument cluster (not sure about iDrive).

there's also a safety feature built into that, after u restated the car without the key, if u exit the car and lock the doors( ie to warm up the car on a cold day) if more than 3-5 minutes passed the lever wont shift out of park without the key inserted in the slot. before i found that out i use to worry about somebody smashing my window and drive off with the car .
