Yes they are better athletes, but I'd say Butler's season was more successful in their given sports (two years in a row, btw). Butler is a better program...and if you try to argue that angelo and lovie and ted comprise a better program you should drive with your helmet on...backwards.

I guess, I just don't subscribe to the whole I live here so I should have a rooting interest in that team. They suck. Its not just being bad, its doing fundamental things that almost seems that they are trying to be bad that makes me denounce them as all true fans should until they change their ways. I like my teams to be well run...either being good or really building foundations for being good...not crap - like the bears/cubs.

Forgetting one simple thing in talking to me. I don't give a fuck about college basketball, and will therefore assume meatball status and consistently declare NFL football teams better. And I'd rather watch better athletes than a better program any day of the week. "Wow, these athletes suck, but look at that program!" Maybe that's what some people see in the WNBA???

Again, not completely disagreeing with you. But better athletes don't automatically mean better sport. The bears did not play well this year is my point. They played mostly ok...and were lucky to have the record that they did.

Depends on what you want in a "sport" but college sports to me will never be as entertaining as pro sports. And what I want from sports is not entertainment...and IMO the best players provide the most entertainment. And pro players are unquestionably better than college players.

ok since its early, and I'm tired, let me just quickly get down the road that you were so slowly following me down.

Your argument is that you want to watch the best athletes. Then by that logic there are, even if you believe that the bears are one of the 4 best teams in the nfl (bullshit), at least two teams with better athletes- Green Bay and Pitt. You should be a fan of them instead of the Bears. The Bears have not had the better athletes in years, therefore, you prefer pro sports but are a homer. Its not bad to be a homer but you are.

Secondly, again by virtue of the better athlete argument, you would then be a sox fan over a cubs fan. But you are not. Therefore you don't really prefer the better athlete.

I think my point is, and my problem with Bernsie argument here is that I understand that the level of play and therefore the game is better on the pro level due to the better athletes. However, that does not completely invalidate lower level sports. Sport, after all, plants its seeds of passion in us at an early age based on our love of competion, and our desire to be witness to the spectacle at any level. Otherwise, for example, why did you play tennis and soccer? You obviously were not pro material (although playing both those sports does make you ghey)...so why bother? Because you received enjoyment from it...and that is what makes collegiate sport worthwhile to many. Butler is not joining the ranks of the best collegiate teams anytime soon, but they deserve a modicum of respect for their accomplishment and it is pissing me off to hear meatballs just sh!t on them even though I have no vested interest in them.

And yes, I was intentionally picking a fight with you because I enjoy these arguments with you. They are intelligent and well thought out higher level sports arguments, even if you are a homer. Stretch.
