My mind just melted. Is a four series wagon a "coupe?"

Nah what we need is a G81 competition with a choice of RWD/AWD and 3 pedals 👍

Agreed. No interest in the ungainly GC, but would buy a wagon tomorrow.

G42 and G43 are still the only body shapes confirmed for the next 2 anywhere in the world?

There was talk of a GC at some stage but nothing for a long time

RWD, a shrunken G20.

G42 will be a suitable platform for an M2, but there hasn't been any evidence yet that the next M2 is happening. I think even the regular 2 series models haven't been finalized yet.
Any news when i4 is due?
is it "still" a 3GT shape?
thanks in advance

Great news! Plenty of time for ///M to develop a M2 CSL

Damn. I certainly hope that Mexican plant can fulfill, Individual paint options!! That would go a LONG way for US buyers to get over a German designed car built in Mexico.

I kind of wonder what Leipzig will build then? Maybe only i products ? BMW has been pruning away certain products from Leipzig to Regensburg. Humm...

If we are being sensible. Then there will be another M2. I just cannot see why they would not... The concept is far too lucrative to dismiss.

Also I expect European 2er and the M2 for the global market to be manufactured still in Germany.

Too optimistic. Having a chat with someone whilst salivating over the new G21 it It is refreshing to hear that a concept is very much being taken seriously this time around and discussion is in its infancy stage of inception.

Hopefully when everybody breaks up for the winter and they head to the more affluent ski resorts they will see the endless Audi RS Avants and Mercedes AMG's litter the resort car parks amongst the multitude of SUVs.

But they won't put two more doors on the rwd cars to let us old folk put in our track tires for weekend outings?

We do so love our tossable sports sedans, but they are getting a little long in the tooth.

My thoughts exactly. The 2er exists for and sells to the purists. I think BMW knows it would rub a lot of these buyers the wrong way if they weren't made in Deutschland, and therefore could sabotage their sales of the next-gen car. The 3er is probably leased by unsuspecting badge buyers most of the time anyway, so less risk in moving production to Mexico.

also, i just hope they don't keep growing this car indefinitely

So you can confirm the convertible is indeed not going to make it to production? I'd read that elsewhere, but I think this is the first I've seen you weigh in.

I recall you also mentioning the B58 model goes away too. This will leave just the one model (in the US), albeit perhaps with 300hp+ by then (maybe even branded M235i or M240i, who knows) and the M2.

As the highest tuned B48 cars all going to be badged 35i (so far only the X2) you would think that the same tune on the B48 in the G42 would also be called 35i.

A lot of people talk about the superior balance and lighter feel of the 228i/230i, as such I think that a B48 with 225kw in G42 badged as M235i could work quite well.

Sound like a step in the good direction. There are many ski resort in Canada just saying.

Yep, or M*35i actually since they are M Performance vehicles. The M135i hatchback and M235i Gran Coupe should join next year. Still not clear if an M135i sedan will make it for the F52 generation, nor if there will be an F48 X1 M35i.

The reason I included M240i as well is because it allows for the possibility that they could reuse that name from the prior generation car while replacing the I6 with an I4 that makes similar power. True, they won't do that for the F40 1 Series hatchback, instead replacing the current M140i with an M135i. But unlike that car (and every other sub 3-Series offering), the 2 Series Coupe will be built on CLAR and thus remain RWD, so I figure they may use that as an excuse to break the rule and set it apart from its FWD/AWD siblings.

It could be a great car. Even more-so if it retains the 6MT option for those that want one. If it were to do that, it would be the very last non-M-proper offering with an available manual transmission (in the US).

Yes but no Audi RS Avants or Mercedes-AMG kombis like Zermatt,St.Moritz,Verbier,Grenoble,Chamonix etc...etc...
You see these all the time. I expect when I go next month to Switzerland I will still see plenty of these models.

6er is a Gran Turismo. Not a Gran Coupe.
Even though it should actually be called a 5er GT.
But I will go ahead and speculate hypothetically. Even though nothing has been discussed internally.
This is the last Gran Turismo.
