I don't particularly care to flame anyone; but when people go back and change what they initially said just so they can be "right", it gets really annoying. ESPCIALLY since most of the people who really were close to the actual price, are not gloating at all.

I'm buying a 335 w/o options, but I am paying cash. Soooo.... does that mean I can't afford it.

Yep. Fraid so. Wahoo is right: BMW should not call them "options". They should call them "stuff for people who can actually afford our cars". And the "base" model should be called "the cheapskate model". </sarcasm>

Man, I wish I could pay cash for a 40k car!

For me? I'll still stick with $1k over the invoice and end up $50k with these options:

Step with paddle shifter
Sport
Premium
I-drive with Navi.
Power sunshade
PDC
CA
Space Grey color
Corel Red interior
Aluminium trim

OH! Look who decided to drop by. All I've got to say is I am still happy with my car. The 335 is one helluva pricey car and I think they are slowly pricing themselves out of the market. That new G35 coupe isn't a looker (IMHO) but it is ~$10K cheaper? Phew, that's a doozy.

Now if we could do something about the stupid rock that cracked my windshield...

No sense in me getting the premium package since, I don't care about the mirrors, I have no garage, and bmw assist doesn't work up here (i think). no sense in navigation either. since there's 1 highway in alaska and distances are measured in "minutes".

hmm... Maybe I'll have to start checkin' out the new VW R32.
BMW Assist works up here. We tried it out when I got my new car.

Local dealership was lame and would only offer $500 below MSRP for cars on the lot -- bought in DFW for $400 over invoice for same car...well worth the 180 mile drive. Good luck with your hard-ball pricing...people with half a clue won't go for it. You are insane if you think you deserve an extra $1000 from "single ladies" and "nurses" as you describe.
I dont want a $1,000 dollars from single ladies and nurses.....
I said $1000 for $1000 off from anyone......I was making a point of most people will pay $30 more a month, if the can have it now. I have never sold a car over sticker, we won't allow it, and when we had offers from wholesalers and leasing agents from California trying to buy of M5, we said no, I wan that car to be local, as well as we do not charge over sticker. I was just saying this car is going to be in hot demand with a certain group, and the market for this car will be here for a while, the other guy from page 4 said that the market would drop, I know it won't maybe slow a but, but with the XI right behind it we should carry straight through very well. By the way people, this is a business you forget, I am not taking people to the cleaners, or stealing money, I am not doing some in justice to my customers, yes I discount cars, yes I give great prices, I am very competitive, but we are talking about supply and demand, do we understand that concept? the first 40 or so off the trucks will either be accounted for, or sold with in hours, if there is a line, and someone wants to haggle, I will move on, I am sure you are all business men, or professionals some how, even if you work at a fast food place, you can understand the concept of if someone is in line and the hesitate, you say NEXT!!!! E90 $1,700 off sure..... E92....Different story.
P.S the Z4 customers payment went up $25 dollars from his previous lease of a z4 2.5, so in his eyes going from a 2.5 to a 3.0 for $25 dollars was a steal, and you can thank the BUY rate for that.
People buy when then feel they got the best price, people will pay more to have a CA that will do anything for them, you send your faxes, you shop around, buy your next 4 BMW from 4 different place.....or you can buy from me and see the care my customers receive. You get what you pay for.

WELL, THIS DEALS ARE OFFERED BY DECENT AND HONEST CAR SALES MEN OR WOMEN, THEY MAKE MONEY ON EVERY CAR SOLD MANY WAYS, FOR A FEW GOOD DECENT DEAL MADE, THEY RIP OFF 10 MORE WITH PRICES OVER STICKER, UNECESSARY GUARANTEES AND OPTIONS, BAD FINANCING DEALS THAT GIVE THE DEALER EVEN MORE PROFITS FROM BANK COMMISSIONS, ETC... SO YEAH !, THE FEW THAT DO OUR HOMEWORK HAVE AN ADVANTAGE AND THERE WILL BE ALWAYS A DECENT DEALER. THEY SELL A CAR, THEY STILL MAKE A PROFIT AND MAKE US HAPPY.

I have no complaints about the price. Because I only want one relatively cheap option (sport package) and would prefer to do ED, I should have absolutely no trouble getting a 335i coupe (let alone sedan - which I would also prefer) under my self-imposed 40k limit. Failing that, I won't be buying until next summer at the soonest, so maybe I can pick up a slightly used one.

This all assumes, of course, that I A.) end up wanting the car after I drive it and B.) don't go for a something else (Z4, Lotus, etc) instead.

Boy you sure have some uninformed customers in your neck of the woods if they believe that paying $25/month more was justified. Assuming they came out of a 3 year lease on 2003 car, they any way would have been screwed on the initial lease since they would not have benefitted from the trunk money and would have paid premium lease rates since the Z4 was new then. The interest rates were low then so the MF may have been less on an absolute scale, but high on a scale relative to other cars.

The Z4 is an overpriced car. A well optioned 3.0si (or the old 3.0) approaches Porsche territory. BMW screwed up the initial pricing structure royally and priced the car about 10-15% more than what the market would bear. So every year they play the trunk money game. At the end of the 2003 model year, every car was CPOed and came with $6K of trunk money! Even after the refresh in 2006 and the trunk money, they can not move enough of them and have to take a bath on the lease terms. I drove a Z4 with a $48K+ sticker for 19 months so know what the car is and what it is not.

Your customer should have paid at least $75 less now since that is what the market with the current lease rates is.

And can you tell me how you take care of your customers? After the sale is done, you move on to the next sale. The service department pretty much works independently of the sales dept. Sure you can request a loaner or two but that is pretty much it. And for that honor your customer ends up paying $1000s more.

Again, I do not see anything wrong in your efforts to maximize the profits on the cars you sell. You are out to make as much as you can and as long as you have uninformed customers willing to pay a premium in buying from you, you have the right to maximize your profits.

However, people in these boards are well informed and know what the current market rates are. Telling them not to expect anything less than MSRP is baloney. The cars will go for less than MSRP. They are a commodity 3 series and not some limited production M car.
