The only was to add good reliable power is turbo, the supercharger hits at the higher rpm,but still seems to be testing.

What I don't understand is you would have thought that fitting a supercharger to a non boosted engine would be easier than fitting a turbo to run with the OEM ECU?!

Bump for updates! OP should consider making turbo manifolds so the rest of us can boost our n52s

OP actually swapped the whole engine bay order in order to run his project, by looking at his engine bay, he moved the whole coolant expansion tank and all lines and hoses from left to right so there is more room for the GT35 to go in, so even OP can mass produce the manifolds and off-the-shelf tune for sale, this is still very involving to fit

Fwiw it's not too bad to do this on an n54, I can't imagine it is much harder on the n52. My tank etc. is swapped for my inlets. You are right a manifold alone will not help people. Most will need a full kit.

Well, looks like the conformation over the years of the n52 not being strong enough for boost have been broken. DigiDon has done a great job with this project, proven to others that it's possible to maintain a turbo n52! Great stuff

I have decided to make some turbo manifolds. Working on flanges at the moment. If all goes well, I would say around January/February before I have something I would sell.

Yes basically same problems as doing an N54 single turbo conversion, only the N52 is even tighter fit due to the a/c compressor being in the way.

Thank you. Yes she's still going strong. Me and the wife just drove to Key Largo last weekend for a Wedding. Only issue I have on long trips is finding a gas station with E85 fuel. If I absolutely had no choice I could use 93 octane but would have to keep the boost low and modify my tune a little.

So far I have ran up to 20psi of boost and still holding... knock on wood..

20psi????! That's crazy!

How is that even possible with this engine?

Seems like bmw built some strong engines for the E9X platform..well minus the S65. There is an n54 with a 6766 running 41psi stock unopened block. The question usually is for how long imo.

Great to see you offering manifolds! Any thoughts on supplying a full kit? Just curious as I no longer have my e91.

That's pretty impressive too! But this is a magnesium and aluminum block, 20psi is pretty scary.

Air cooled vdubs with their mag cases have been running boost for decades so it's really not all that surprising. As long as you keep detonation at bay, don't drive like a maniac and let the engine get up to operating temps nothing should go boom.

With that being said it generally comes down to hardware failures like rod bolts that lead to blown motors.

Not planning on offering full kits. Just too much involved. Time will tell I guess.

I'm not really concerned about the block. I have run over 40psi on open deck aluminim 4cyl engines without issue, and the magnesium cylinders are lined with aluminum and the blocks are pretty well ribbed. I'm more concerned about the connecting rods. Not sure how they are built. I'm pretty confident they can handle about 100ftlb torque per cylinder so in the 600ftlb torque range to the crank. I'm thinking this may handle over 600hp to the wheels as long as the torque stays below 600ftlb crank. BMW usually over engineers their engines. Guess we will see.

BPC dug this up and posted on their turbo kit thread.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=103

Our rods are forged but with smaller (than n54) rod bolts and cast crank.

Thats good info! We know the N54 rods hold over 800ftlb torque and over 900hp. I'm pretty sure 600ftlb is within reach. I would love to know the size of the beam on the N52 rod vs the N54 rod beam. Only thing I dont like is the cast crank vs forged steel crank..

The size of the beam on the N52 rod is the same as the N54. The only difference in the rods is the size of the bolt. I've read the technical data on this and spoken with numerous builders...

The vdubs were running 20psi though? Surprising is a relative term bruh

Well with that uplifting info, I change my mind. We may be good for 700hp and 700ftlb!! So the crank would most likely be the weak point..

You and others seem to think magnesium can't handle boost, I simply gave an example where it can and has... for decades.

... just in case no one knows, VAC is building a deck insert for the N54 block. it will most likely work for the N52 as well. the I dea is the take the deck from open to closed and in the process make the block more rigid.
