Persian Whisperjet's number wasn't used as his didn't fail. It is interesting what my math came out in reference to his 71,200 replacement point. Mean failure @ 89,623 miles stand deviation of sample size= 22 is 19,129 miles mean -std dev= 70,497 miles mean + std dev= 108,749 miles |

Heads up to anybody trying to order a HB off ECS ordered a febi from them Friday and got a call today that they didn't have any in stock. Guy on the phone said they didn't have the either of the other brands in stock either. Had to cancel order and bought a Vaico off europarts because it was only one I could find that wasn't a fortune that could be delivered in time to get my wife's car fixed before she has to take a 7 hour trip next week.

Idaho, did you ever get a look at your HB to see if it has the angular cracks? Hooper had given idea to use a selfie stick with phone perhaps in movie mode. We sure wouldn't want you jumping through hoops to change it only to find out it's okay. We do feel that it likely you've had the HB slipping at its hub based on your symptoms matching many other owner's. Perhaps you did this and I just missed you telling us you saw the crack(s).

Cuda, the HB is definitely bad. I was out of town for a couple days so this morning was the first time I really got to dig into everything. Haven't gotten it totally apart yet but i can feel a crack in the pulley with my fingers and it is kinda loose and wobbly.
First thing I did was take the engine cover, air intake, the plastic liner underneath off and move charge pipe as suggested earlier in this thread as well as the removing the belts. Problem I have now is getting the fans out. There is a bolt on the top passenger side that is obvious but I can't seem to find any other bolts holding it in. Anybody have any directions on how to get it out? And also do the fans and heat exchanger come out together? Stumped by this step. |

Add me to the list.
Car felt like it had a slight miss then burning rubber smell and no power steering. Guess I'll be the next one to try and place an order. 122,431 miles on the clock.

Okay now Im just working from memory here so bear with me.....its been a few months since i did it. From what I remember you had to take off the snorkle on top...take out a couple of screws in the top.... seems like there might have been another one or two up high... and there was something down low on drivers side that had to come off too. other than that it was just clips... Now you asked about fan and heat exchanger....do you mean the radiator?.... because the only thing that comes out is the fan itself....just big black plastic comes out, nothing else... and it comes out the top... |

I recall Yozh mentioning the heat exchanger too. And he would have said radiator. He had to pull fan out of the way to drill out his broken bolt (he changed HB recently too).

Still travelling for work and no time to do much. But a few things from memory.
In the below pic, I am not certain about #4, but the screw and the clip need to be handled. |

From the above diagram, there are also four (4) of the #7 clip that hold pipe #6, they need to be removed, but not broken, use proper tools. Removed not just the pipe unclipped from them. If not removed, they will be in the way.
Then also one (1) of the #10 clip that holds pipe #8. Same thing, need to remove. There is an electrical connector for the fan itself, on top. And a clip that holds it's wire. And of course the charge pipe to throttle body needs to be disconnected and moved out of the way. Clearance on the passenger side to remove the rad fan needs to be carefully managed not to damage coolant lines. |

This may have already been posted but just as a FYI.....the belts on our 335d's are the same as a late model Dodge Ram.....and Dodge belts are cheaper than BMW belts.

There is nothing conclusive...my Febi appeared to be OEM, another Febi didnt... Corteco does appear to be OEM though.... That said...I dont think either of them will be a bad choice as both seem to be made better than stock...AND....the only REAL permanent solution is the fluidampr one...which hasnt been produced yet.
