Ok. If I’m updating in a bunch of short trips (turning car on and off). Any chance of file corruption or not to worry if the process starts and stops a half dozen times?

Guess I should have read the nine pages closer and wouldn’t have asked the above questions. Did the update with all files in the pkdgb folder as described in this post below. Took about an hour while giving status for 1 of 4 discs. But now it is asking for disc 2. What to do now?

Worked like a charm, and very easy if you follow the steps. I used a 32GB usb and loaded all 4 usb on it (formatted it to DOS FAT first). As it ask for each usb I remove it and plug it into my MAC (yes it works with a MACBOOK) and moved the need file to the root folder and put the unneed file back into its own folder as I go along.

Hi Pretzel Did you keep the disk 1's config.nfm in the root of the usb stick? Just to be sure, overwrite it with the one from the disk 1. Also check out this screenshot of all folders in the pkgdb folder, does yours look the same? If this fails, you may need to try putting disk 2's config.nfm in the root of the usb stick, then disk 3's config.nfm etc. |

I’m going to retry using this 4 folder method.
When I combined them it appeared to import all the files because it took an hour but as I said it wanted USB 2 afterward. When I got home I readied USB 2 and restarted the car. But it then asked for USB 1. Maybe it cancelled everything out because I took too long? Thanks |

Yeah I thought maybe it was looking for the different config files but since it appears I need to start over anyhow I won’t experiment anymore and stick with what is known to work.

Updated successfully. I guess the system just needed to see the different config files. No additional files needed to be imported. As soon as the USB was inserted at each of the 1,2,3,4 requests it proceeded to the next request. Thank you! |

I'm having the same problem, I have a 2011 335i with premium 2010 maps, and It won't download the hex file to the usb drive no matter how many I try or what I do? What makes the script work for some and not for others if the firmware is the same?

New here after just acquiring an E91 335i with way out of date maps
managed to get the 1B file easily enough, generated the FSC code, so far so good but when I extracted the map images to my USB2.0 FAT32 formatted stick nothing..... I used the 1xUSB images, verified that the nfm file and pkdg directory are in the root. All looks good. I put the USB stick in the glovebox but nothing, no indication that a new version was available. This is the same USB stick as I used to source the 1B file. I'm about to try the 3xUSB version to see if I can get that to work but anyone got any ideas as to why the CIC isn't seeing this as an update? I've got the tick with the 'i' in the bottom left so in theory it should be upgradable via USB. Thanks in advance. regards CJ |

As I understand you put in the USB stick and the new maps software is 'detected'. Any help appreciated. |

Hi all,
Tried 2 usb to try and retrieve the 1b file, no luck so far. Is the FSC code unique to the map version by any chance? I have purchased a map from a vendor before, just curious if that code is reusable or not. Thanks! |

I was able to retrieve my code, downloaded the premium USA maps onto brand new usb sticks (4). My car doesn’t do anything when I plug in the usb into the glove box port.
The usb lights up for a few seconds and then shuts off. They are RAR files and show up on my laptop when I plug the usb in. My car doesn’t have the option to update the navigation maps via idrive. Any suggestions? Thank you |

Thank you for your reply, I unzipped the files prior to copying them to the usb sticks. I had previously done the same type of upgrade in 2016 and had no problems. This time, the car doesn’t recognize the usb. |
