I'm having the same problem. Can someone confirm whether you need to enter the complete VIN or just the last 7 digits?

I don't know how it works for BMW yet, but when I tracked my Mini, I entered the whole number.

Unfortunately I only have the last 7 digits of the VIN. Is the first part of the VIN the same for all the '09 3 series? If so, can someone post that part of the VIN?

Yes - VERY interested - please keep us posted on where you car ends up.

Personally, my car finished production on 9/12, all weekend listed as "released to carrier for shipment to port", and today on 9/15 800-humans say that it's "Dispatched from AG" (which supposedly means it's left the factory and is in-transit to the port).

Hopefully I'll be on the same boat - the more of us on the same boat, the easier it will be for us to work together to track...

Call BMW USA at 800-831-1117, give them the production number, and they'll tell you the VIN.

I already did today, but only got the last 7 digits - didn't think I'd need the whole thing. I guess I'll have to call again tomorrow.

Call BMWNA and give them your production number. They'll happily provide you with the full VIN.

Edit: Uh, hahaha, sorry, didn't read the last post before posting my own reply.

OK, so 800-Humans tell me that my E90 LCI has "arrived at the port of exit". (800-robots still tell me that the vehicle has been released for transportation to the port, and OC still says "02 Awaiting Transport" and only lists 2008 options.)

So, what's the best way for me to find out when my car gets on a ship, and what ship it ends up on?

I don't want to bug my CA daily, and 800-humans say I need to contact my CA to track from here on out.....

Well, you can wait until OC says "in transit to VPC" and the 800 tells you the same and to contact your dealer for shipping info.

Then, you can call your dealer and ask for the vessel name with confidence. However, your ship may have left a couple days prior (as mine did). The alternative would be hounding your CA everyday

You can also look at the stickies in this forum to help you find out which ship you might be on, and then ask your CA when your suspected ship leaves harbor.

OK, thanks.

Has anyone had any luck entering a VIN into any shipping company's website to verify their car is on board?

Nope, but BMWNA says my car is still at the dock. I'm really hoping to make it on the last ship out today or on the 19th. The stupid thing is that I did all this just a few months ago to track my wife's Mini, but since I wasn't planning on buying a BMW back then, I just brain dumped the whole thing. Grrr....

I'll go through the process again once I get confirmation that my car is actually en route and keep everyone posted.

How long has it been at the ports?
Mine got there on the 9th and its still there.
I spoke with the 800# humans and the guy told me that "the car arrived at the port awhile ago and it should be on a vessel already and en route".
WTF?!
My dealer says its still at he port, bmwusa says its awaiting transportation and, 800# robots say awaiting transportation with no shipping info.

My car has been at the ports since... um... 9/12 or 9/13. I have the same status as you from the robot, but I haven't talked to anyone live yet. I'm chomping at the bit here, man. I don't know how many cars are in front of me, but it can't be that many... can it?

My car also reached the port on 9/12 and is currently reporting a status of "at the port, awaiting a shipping vessel" from all available sources. Let us hope for plenty of room for all on the 9/19 ship.

Edit: I corrected the Wallenius Wilhelmsen directions as the direct link to auto tracking didn't work.

Hey guys,

My car is in transit, woo hoo!!!!

I even managed to find what ship I'm on. I'm on the TRAVIATA! So here's what I did to find my boat.

1) Called BMWNA, like I do every day
2) Robot lady (I heart her) told me that my car is "in transit."
3) Go to http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTracking/cargoTrack.do and choose "Auto cargo"
4) Put in the whole VIN number
5) Voila, I got the ship that I'm on

The strange thing is that this ship was not listed on either the NYK site (which is worthless, btw) or the DBH site. So really, the 2wglobal site is the way to go.

Good luck everyone! I hope some of us are on the same ship. Now I really can't wait!

my car was finished on 9/10, 1 day after methodtim's, and it just got to the port today?? wuts up with that?

if the schedule of everyone else's car is any indication, then that would mean it will sit there for another week before it gets on a boat!!

this really blows! I was hoping it would be on a boat by now.

Well, as with everything through BMWNA, there is a lag. When I checked my VIN against the W&W site, I got this information:

LOADED ON VESSEL PORT HUENEME, CA 13/09/2008 10:00

So it appears that my car was loaded three days ago, but BMWNA just updated their systems this morning (or sometime during the night last night). You may just want to go input your VIN into W&W's site for shits and giggles and see if your car is loaded.

Yeah, I put in my complete VIN. Damn, that sucks... I wonder what carrier is shipping your car then...

unless I'm mistaken, it's not an NYK ship, so it shouldn't be on their site. Your ship is due for Hueneme only 1 day after mine, so you might even get here before me. It looks like Traviata isn't making as many stops as Hojin.

I just got an e-mail from my CA today confirming that my car is on the ship and is slated to arrive into port October 6. Once it's there, it'll take about a week or two to get through customs, and be driven up to Fremont. Woo hoo, almost at the home stretch!
