Also I want to buy a used coil set or at least some used koni yellows and HRrace/Eibachs. Anybody switch over to coils and have a used set of something laying around?

I hear there are now Megan's for e90's. Anybody on the forum have them? $999 really good price and I hear they are have adjustable dampening and obviously height..unlike KW V1's that are only height.

If it's the same range of years (ie--pre LCI or LCI, etc.), then I'm pretty sure it will. You can double check with your dealer too.

I have waited so much for this first reply And now I have a question to proffesional tuners, bmw owners: Is official M suspension is the best for E90 or could I be satified more with another brand with same price or even less such as KONI?

You don't need M shocks and springs for performance - you can stick with the aftermarket. There are so many options at such a wide range of price points that what you need and want is definitely out there.

Start with your budget and intended application (stance?/racing?/slightly better ride?) then we can make recommendations from there.

Check out BMW Performance Suspension through Tischer (dealer). Stiffer springs, matching dampers, stiffer front anti sway, plus all the additional parts needed for the install. $1250

So I don't currently own a BMW at the moment but I will hopefully be buying my dad's 07 E90 328i Sport 6MT off him in the near future once I get settled in my new job. But until then I'm just collecting research. Suspension is gonna be one of the first major modifications I do.

Currently the car has around 54k miles on it and from browsing around it sounds like that's about the time the shocks should be replaced. My current car, (97 Camry) I did a spring/shock combo and wasnt really satisfied and then added ground control sleeves to get the drop I really wanted. All in all i told myself I'm not doing a spring/shock combo again. I want the adjustability you get with coilovers.

So I need some advice on whats a good coilover to buy. I just want to close up the wheel gap and maybe a slight tuck but I also want the ability to slam it for a weekend. The stock suspension rides good but the front could be a little stiffer. I dont really want anything thats softer than what I have now. I've been looking at KW just because I haven't heard anything bad and I dont want a cheap brand. If I'm gonna be driving a BMW I want to modify it with quality parts.

The KW Street Comfort has received all very positive reviews from people on this forum. Slightly stiffer linear springs with very good matching damping is the big attraction for me.

Ohlin's Road & Track, expert installation

I just thought I'd mention my experiences with the Ohlin's Road and Track on my '08 E92 335i 6 speed Coupe.

1. 1st priority is street performance, as i drive the car on the street 99% of the time.

2. Wanted a solution for the uneasiness under several conditions on the street: namely hard acceleration and the floppiness of the four wheels over rough pavement and under heavy loading and unloading of the suspension.

3. Did not want to HATE the car after modifying it. I've driven so many friend's/student's cars that were awesome at the track and were just way way too stiff for me as a daily driver.

I sought the expertise of Harold at HP Autosport and was excited to hear the Ohlin's was available for my car. Other mods I did at the same time:

1. Rear subframe bushings (mandatory, with 33K miles my car's traction control light would come on under even moderate acceleration around corners). At 40K it wasn't getting any better.

2. Limited slip, went with Wavetrak

3. M3 links/rods up front, bought the OEM units and saved. May do the rear links/bits later.

4. Apex Wheels; EC 7's, 18X9 31ET w/ 255/35/18 square all the way round. (little wider than expected!)

5. Michelin Pilot Supersports (required 5mm spacer in front to clear Ohlins)

6. Harold's expert installation, corner weighting and trick alignment maximizing negative camber up front.

Car is better in every way. More planted, massive traction out of corners with no squirm. Perhaps not as quiet, but damn near. Very little compromise.

I still have a slight issue with on center feel above about 30 miles an hour above the speed limit. I think it's alignment post tracking the car and having an off.

At 20 clicks from full soft (12 clicks from full stiff) at Laguna Seca, car was very good, forgiving. Steering unfortunately still isn't near M3 feel (I've had 4 ///M cars) or as precise. But that's a 335i BMW issue i.e. BMW castrating everything new these days that is non ///M. But car was fun. Experimented all the way up to 3 clicks from full stiff, but the car became a bit twitchy so I backed off to 24 which seemed about right. On the street I use 10 from full soft (factory recommendation) and i just love it. Did highway 74 through the mountains twice yesterday from La Quinta to Anza. Oh my.

Background: been tracking my cars for 20 years, instructor for a while, but I'm Mr. Rusty on the track these days as I go so infrequently now....just go for seat time now!

If i continue modding this car, I'll consider camber plates and sway bars. For now, it's a real pleasure to drive as is on the street.

Comparisons I'm familiar with:

HR sports springs with Bilsteins on E36 M3; more control but too stiff for me on street, hoot on the track with HR bars and camber plates.

HR OE Sports on Koni Yellows on E36 M3, I like this compromise a lot for a mostly street car that see's track time only once in a while. Really fun, slight drop and lots of control compared to stock. Nice controlled ride (stiffer than Ohlin's for sure) but easily drivable on street.

KW Variant 3 on E46 M3. Great control but again, too stiff for me on the street (I didn't have the shocks adjusted properly on the car I drove, so this is a poor reference point)

Dinan E36 M3, Nice compromise.

Ohlins R&T on E46 ///M3. Considerably stiffer than my car, but I like it a lot and could absolutely drive this everyday. I drove this on full soft. Steering is laser sharp. Would love to take THIS car to the track. Way soft on power however compared to my car.

If your considering a new suspension, I would highly recommend calling Harold at HP Autosport in Santa Barbara. His attention to detail and expert knowledge is refreshing.

I may have passed over it but does anyone have anything on the ST's? I know ST is the same company as KW but when I was looking at prices for shocks and springs it came out to about the same amount as the ST coilovers. Any input is appreciated.
