Personally I wouldn't go with 3rd party solution when the official BMW kit is just around corner.

I've been waiting for it for 9 months, I'm sure another month wouldn't hurt. Still, I wish BMWNA would release more information about it in the mean time though.. e.g. pricing, spec, etc.

Well, since the new iPod Interface isn't available in the U.S. until the beginning of August, and won't be in other markets until several weeks later, it wouldn't be possible to order it and try to install it.

Perhaps Mi has purchased the old system, which is not compatible. You might try returning it or sell it to someone with an E46 or X3 or something.

You are pretty close to the factory in Africa.

Sports steering? Bluetooth?

Perhaps you can help to lead the technician to the nearest Ford garage.

If you have Sat-Nav the older interface will not work. Some models of radio (non i-drive) can connect to the older ipod interfaces that connects to the back of the radio. These units did not interface with the CAN-bus on E90. The new unit expected end July interfaces to the MOST bus, and should work will all radios and all systems. There is a possibility that it wont work with a CD changer - if it uses the CD changer MOST connector. Remember that MOST is a ring network, so I am sure BMW is not intending changing their network layout for I-pod. They will also not complicate manufacturing by connecting it up to any other MOST nodes.

Good luck

Good luck

Any release date yet? Come on Jonathan... give it up. How long before dealers can realistically order it?

My rep at Parkview and their parts guy had no other info on the new interface that is coming soon. I would not get the one they currently have in stock when the new (proper) ipod integration is coming so soon... plus the one they currently have is very expensive (approx. $1000CDN installed).

Just to clarify, it is a 'new' interface as they've just received it (at Parkview) for the first time, but it is clearly not the 'new' interface that JSpira is referrring to. If you call them back (I strongly suggest you do) I'd forward them a copy of the press release on the OEM MOST Ipod Interface and ask them if they have info on when it is due...
It would sure make life a lot easier if there was some standard terminology for the iPod integration. I've been anxiously waiting for the "new BMW Interface for iPod" as described on the www.ipodyourbmw.com website, and press release dated April 12, 2006. I called my dealer and was quoted over $1,000 (CDN) by the parts department for the "new Ipod adapter", so I am assuming that they are referring to the option noted above (and in post #36 by simnew). Based on reading the various posts on this forum, I have come to the understanding that the option described in the April 12/2006 press release is still not available, and pricing has still not been determined. Can someone please confirm if that is indeed the case, and if there have been any recent updates on an anticipated release date and pricing (including for the Canadian market). Also, is there a part# that can be referred to to avoid the confusion?

Secondly, can someone please identify the prerequisites for the "new BMW Interface for iPod". I specifically ordered my car without the CD changer, since my sales rep told me it was not compatible with the new iPod interface. I seem to recall a reference on the forum to some pre-wiring for CD changer that was a requirement, which someone mentioned was "standard" for the US market. Anyone know if it is also "standard" in Canada, and/or if it's really required.

Thirdly, as asked by "Silver Bullet", I understand that MOST is a fiber optic standard for connecting entertainment devices in vehicle (please correct or elaborate). Can anyone tell me if E90s use MOST, and if the "new BMW Interface for iPod" requires MOST? From what I've read, I assume they do, but we all know what assuming leads to.

Finally, just out of curiousity, how did JSpira get what appears to be the "new BMW Interface for iPod" back in June, when it isn't even available yet?

FWIW, I've got a Canadian spec 330xi E90 without iDrive, in case it has a bearing on any of my questions.

It's 7/26 already and not even the price information has been released on the iPod kit. Things are not looking good for the "late July availability".

There is apparently a small delay in the distribution network and I am awaiting further info on when this will be available. It will first be available in the U.S. market, then in other markets (I do not know the order of which get it second).

You would need the pre wiring (or pre-fibering), as it connects to the port for the CD player. This is standard on U.S. vehicles, no idea re Canadian.

Yes, all of the new generation BMWs (E60, E90, etc.) use MOST. And yes, the Interface for iPod connects to the MOST bus. That is the whole point of the new interface.
