I believe there are plenty of profits to be made that we don't know about. There are bonuses for hitting quotas, customer satisfaction surveys, and also they make plenty of money on their service dept. If you can accept $500 over invoice, then why not $300? At least 3 dealers were willing to play with $500, so it was only a matter of time before another one went a little lower. They are all competing for our dollar. A sale at $200 less profit is still better than no sale. |

I just don't believe any dealer would let the car go for just $300 or even $500 profit, when most seem to be making $1000, $1500, or more.

I don't think they are just making the money above the 'public' invoice price we see. I have seen ppl saying the real invoice as at least 2-3% below the public one. and they have other bonus... while selling a car.

MSRP tends to be the same across the USA but what is this invoice price people keep posting about? "I got it for $300 over, well I got it for $1,100 over" and so on. Do we really know what the invoice price is? Or do we just believe the salesperson because we know they don't lie. What is the invoice price on a stock 330i? Does anyone really know?

even though we are paying so much over invoice remember there are fees included in the invoice that give them profit like I think its the transportation fee for $650? Also many people do financing through the dealer so they make money there, plus trade ins....

certainly your right.
in the trade, however, the two are thrown around so as to confuse the public. never in a zillion years would any dealer take on negotiations from their true cost. my family owns a dealership, alibeit not BMW, and this is the basis of my experience. -e- |

Details - 330i, Manual, Sport, Premium - Blk Lthr, Aluminum, Sat. Prep, Barrique Red. MSRP = $41,645 Invoice = $38,135 Edmunds TMV for my Zip = $40,387 Deal Accepted = $40,000 including Rubber Mats ($78 MSRP) and dealer will sell me the Aluminum Pedals & Cargo Liner at Dealer Cost. Accounting for the "free" mats in the price that comes to $1,723 off MSRP or $1787 over invoice - essentially a split between invoice and MSRP, which was my top limit going in. The negotiation was very low key. I came armed with a spreadsheet printout of MSRP v. Invoice prices based on $500 increments over invoice along with the Edmunds TMV printout. Here's how it went: I started the fun offering Europe Del. invoice plus $1000 which got everyone smiling. He pointed out that $500-$1000 over invoice was unheard of in SD these days, and then showed me the chart for Costco Prices (330i around $2500 over invoice). Next he said the Edmunds TMV ($1258 off MSRP) was a reasonable price. Then he pulled out his incoming inventory statement and said he had only four cars he could sell (business has been good). I pointed out that my car would be on the lot only as long as it would take for delivery prep. He said he'd sell at Edmunds TMV. I said that was generous but I would have to make offers at other dealers to see if I could do better before accepting. Then to my surprise he made the offer detailed above (that I accepted), checked with "the guy in the other room", came back with a smile, and handshake, and a thank you. So...from what others here are posting, I may have been able to do a little better but I kind of wanted to give this guy my business based on our meeting and the test drive. My test drive experience sold me on this SA. My wife and I walked in on a weekend afternoon and were met by this SA. I told him what I was looking for and that if he had a 330i/Manual/Sport I'd like a test drive. He excuses himself and in couple of minutes he pulls up in front with the car, asks me for my license to copy, says climb in while I make the copy. When he comes back with my DL he says "we close in a couple hours - be back by then and have fun." I was pretty much shocked since every other place had them holding my hand for a quick run around the block. We came back in after a "thorough tour of the area" and I got his card and we were off. Four days later I have a new car on the way and really couldn't be happier. If you want dealer and SA details e-mail me and I'll get his permission - I can't imagine why he would decline.

In Australia, our cars are expensive, due to GST (sales tax) of 10% and a "Luxury Car Tax" (aka gouge) of 25% of the value above $57,000 ($US42,750).
My 325i had a RRP of approx $97,000 ($US72,500), but I got it for approx $87,500 ($US65,600) drive away price. Mind you there was a lot of going between different dealerships to get that.

I got Metallic paint Steptronic, sports pack with sports steering wheel with 18" wheels, CF front lips, Chrome tips, Floor mats, Rear Spoiler, Sunroof, Tinted windows, steel pedals. All for just $84k Aussie. I did get a few more extras but i cant recall what they are at this time cofort access etc but considering Canterbury BMW quoted me $88k I was happy with what Pennant Hills BMW did for me. Anyway Im happy with what i paid regardless as i get to have my car next week or the week after next. oh yeah i got plates, umbrella, keyring and god knows what else.
