hopefully will be able to pass comments on the upgrade soon.

As the rear speakers were not working and Sytner told me it was a faulty amp, I suggested that they replace it with another BUT they couldnt without BMW's permission. So they contacted BMW technical services this morning. They apparently replied this afternoon. A new amp has been ordered and will arrive tomorrow. Not feeling comfortable that this will solve everything. Hope that they havent been driving my car all this time.

Of course they wouldn't have been driving your car around, they've plenty of their own!
I'm glad that the amp will be on its way tomorrow and fingers crossed that this sorts the issue so you can get on with enjoying your new hi fi .

You would think they had plenty of cars but this is from another thread on this forum discussing another BMW dealership where the OP had some work done

" i am also curious to know if my car had been off the premises as i noticed on the invoice when the car was booked in to when i collected the car 10 miles were added onto the mileage."

New amp arrived and fitted, great improvement. Just one question should they have given me the old speakers and fittings?

Excellent news!
Your old speakers have been retrieved and are in a box waiting for you at reception.

Anneka, I seem to experience increased wind noise emitting from the area around the tweeters at speed and I'm wondering if the foam wedges were fitted like mentioned in the link below from post #94 and onwards.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=182752&page=5

I had a look on realoem and I can't really see any part numbers to what these foam wedges may look like.

The noise is definitely a little bit louder on the drivers side and you can feel a tiny draft in that area. You can start to hear it at 40mph+ and it gets progressively worse with the increase in speed. Before the upgrade I didn't didn't notice any wind noise from this area.

As doc_ab, I didn't get the speakers and corner inserts that were removed and in hindsight it would actually be good to hold on to them in case I decide sell the car later. Any chance I can get mine in a box as well?

Crikey hope that my upgrade doesn't introduce any more annoying squeaks, rattles or wind noise

Might be too late now anyway as I had the install almost a week ago, so we'll see. If it's not possible, then not a biggie.

I didn't notice anything before now as I have happily been cranking up the stereo and enjoying the new sound.

However driving the last couple of days with the stereo and AC off it does sound like there is more noise coming from the drivers side tweeter. I had a friend listen too it and he could definitely hear more noise coming from that area. So I remembered reading that post with the missing foam inserts and started wondering....

Leave it with me 335rocks, I'll speak with the audio tech that worked on the car in the morning.
With regards to your old speakers I will find out for you if they are still on site and have them set aside.

Thanks anneka.

As for the sound, whilst it is much better, it is still not as good as my previous TT. That had Bose and although I am no great Bose fan the sound was pretty good.

The Bose system has more speakers in it that the Alpine including subs, did you find that the Bose delivered more of a surround sound?

The TT coupe has 6 speakers the same as BMW with alpine upgrade. The tt sounds yes more of a surround sound but also richer, with more depth as though it has lots of power in reserve whereas the alpine seems to be working flat out and a bit bright.

The smaller size of the TT probably helps with less glass as well maybe?

Edit:
My Mk1 TT had two speakers in each door and one at the back (no corner tweeters), I recall that the sound was very clear (so clear that you might not notice how loud it was). When I tested the Alpine it seemed to me that the sound was really even, I felt like the speakers could manage the higher volume but that the sound felt less "enclosing"/less bass. I personally think both are fantastic quality systems.

Thanks Anneka, appreciate it!

I have done some more digging and I think I have found the part numbers for the "missing" foam inserts.

Seal, inner left mirror triangle 51 33 7 119 173
Seal, inner right mirror triangle 51 33 7 119 174

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&fg=10&hl=14

The seal/foam insert can be seen in more details either on page 6 on the BSW install guide:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=154

Or around 15 minutes into their excellent install guide for their speaker upgrade.

Still in Germany until Friday/Monday I am being told, although I'm trying to get them here faster. Sorry for the wait, we managed to overwhelm Alpine with the damand for these kits, they sold twice as many this month than the usually do and parts supply promised the kits before checking with the suppliers, major error on my part which I am sorry about. Let me see what I can do, a kit did become available from a cancelled order, I'll try to get that.
