Is ED a good option?
I was looking to get an e90 through ED pricing, I live in PA. Anyone recommend a good dealer in Central PA or Maryland for advice on this subject?
What price should I pay for 2006 325i, AW, Premium, Steptronic, Xenon, Sat. Radio Prep. The US MSRP is $37K + taxes, dealer fees. How much more could I save buy doing ED. BTW, IMO this is a great forum, hopefully I will get my e90 soon, with a little help from my friends at e90post!!! :rocks: |

ED with Trade-in, timeline
I am updating point #3 in this post, which i submitted a few minutes ago, with fresh information I obtained by calling 877-992-6999 (BMW European Delivery Center)
I want to go the ED route and am trading in my car, say I go to my dealer today and agree on a price of the car that I am purchasing to be $35,000. Also say the trade-in value of my current car is $10,000. Here are my questions: 1. Will the dealer be able to work around my schedule and give me an exact date that I will be picking up my car at Munich? Lets call that Pickup-Date. I understand that the dealer might take the next 4 or 5 days to provide me the exact Pickup-Date and that's fine 2. For a Boston, MA resident like myself, the Pickup-Date is going to be around 8 weeks from today, is that correct? If so, say it is March-1-2006 3. Assuming I pick-up my car and drop it off the same day i.e.. March-1-2006 in Munich, the car will arrive at my home around April-15-2006, is that correct? 4. Having said the above, I owe the dealer two things: my current car and a check for $25,000(either obtained through financing from credit union/bank or my own cash). Here are the combinations that exist: (4.1) Provide both these to the dealer 2 weeks prior to Pickup-Date (4.2) Submit just the check 2 weeks prior to Pickup-Date and hold on to the car till April-15-2006 (4.3) Submit just the check 2 weeks prior to Pickup-Date and surrender the car sometime between Feb-15-2006 and April-15-2006 All these i.e.. (4.1) through (4.3) really depends on your dealer is what the guy tells me Please let me know if my above timeline estimation is correct. This will help me determine if ED works for me or not. In the end does ED Save you money ?
From what I have read so far, the ED is around $2000-$3000 cheaper than getting the car delivered to your dealer here in the US.
Assuming that you brought the car (not leased it), you will have to pay up for the car one month before you plan on getting ED. One month later you take ED, drive around and drop it off. The car takes another 4-8 weeks to arrive. So total time spent from paying up to car arriving back in the US is around 8-12 weeks. Assuming a decent APR and a 36 month loan, you would be paying around $1000 a month. This totals to $2000-$3000, even before you have had the car. Does this not negate the whole ED thing ? Or am I missing something ? Ps: I read a post that said with leasing, the second month is free, so that makes sense, but not buying the car. |

Also keep in mind you drove the car in Europe which is the biggest draw of doing ED. Try renting a BMW in Europe for a week with full LDW or even 2-weeks which is what BMW provides on free insurance. FYI: I am picking-up my car at the dealership on Sat, so I've made 2-payments on my loan now.

Have any Canadians done ED? From what I read, it isn't a savings at all!

Depends on your state, but usually what happens is you pick up your car with the temp plates, and go to your local state to register the car and get permanent plates, at which time you pay the apprpriate taxes.

curious... know how the wall street journal reviews cars and shows which state it sells best in and which state it sells the worst in.
I wonder which state the bmw coupe sells the worst in. then i'd shop for it in that state for price quotes. I figure if it's several states away from me, shipping fees could be 500.00 |

Does anyone know where it states that payment for leases is due a minimum of 14 days before pickup? I got my paperwork to sign and send back, but the dealer put the start date of the lease 30 days before pickup. I'm going to ask him why it isn't 14, but would like to be able to reference something other than say "I read it on a forum". I've looked on BMWUSA.com and in my ED literature and couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Have your salesperson show you where it states 30 days. Mine tried to get me to come in 45 days prior to pickup, which I did.. then he pushed the paperwork in front of me to sign, and I asked it this starts the loan. When he stated that it did, I got up and said to call me back in a month, when it's supposed to go thru.

Keep in mind, the date you sign is also the start date of the lease. So if you sign 30 days out, your lease runs for 16 extra days.

Sorry, I got messed up, it is Xenon and it is STD on the 30's.
Sounds like everybody having a hard time finding a good ED deal in the Seattle area. All the dealers are sticking with the ED MSRP. |

Not a great deal for Canadians... the best thing is the trip around Europe in your own car...

Lease - length in europe
I've gotten conflicting information regarding how long you can keep a leased car in europe. I'll need it for 2 months, i've seen that if you lease through BMWFS, you can only keep it over there for 30 days. Other times, you have up to 3 months.

a) Pay Cash b) Finance thro' BMWFS. From the BMW USA Site (http://bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/euro...livery/dropoff) Registration and Insurance BMW European Delivery provides 14 days of premium insurance and tourist registration with no additional cost to you. However, should you decide to extend this, additional coverage is available for purchase in 30-day increments only. This coverage must extend to your drop-off date and can be arranged through your local BMW Center and must be done in advance to your pick up date. The European Delivery department must be notified a minimum of 2 weeks prior to pick up in Munich in the event of an insurance change. The change of insurance cannot be done upon arrival in Munich. |
