I reset the ECU and car runs again, but notice that I have a coolant leak, so will get that fixed and hope electric pump will be good..

My water pump just went out today. Was at a stop light and heard the fans running loudly, started driving and the yellow engine overheat warning came on, 20 seconds the red one came on and the car lost all power. I'm at 78K with an 08 335xi. Going to get it towed to a shop tomorrow and see how much this will come out to be.

Mine replaced at 52000km, no engine light issue but some weird noise and leaked twice on high boost, not sure the leak came from it but nothing since I replaced it, 2000km ago.

For non xi models all you do is drop the sway bar takes about an hour its a tight fit but no need for front end or intercooler removal. Even the xi model you just drop the subframe.

Mine just got towed to the dealer. 09' 335i with 76k miles. Yesterday I got codes for cylinder 5 & 6 misfire and I hardly drove couple miles since then. Today at lunch I took the car from my office parking and within couple miles I got the engine overheat showing up.

Just spent $1300 on the cracked valve cover last month and around 3k on others in the last 6 months (not including new wheels/ tires). What's the ball-park $$ to get this fixed? Indy or dealer? If it's couple 100 bucks then I would do at the dealer. I'm out of warranty. Ouch!! That hurts

Might need new spark plugs/ coils for the cylinder misfires. Will hear from them soon.

Just got mine fixed at the dealership. $480 for the water pump and $450 for 3 hours of labor plus some shop supplies. You are looking at around $1000.

Just had mine replaced at 97K miles, $1200 out the door, but I have Route 66 extended warranty so it only cost me the tax and fluids. I had it done by an independent repair shop as I trust them more than Flow BMW in Winston Salem NC.

Is the replacement waterpump expected to last longer than the original that came with the car? Has anyone had to replace their waterpump more than once? In other words, is this something that needs to be done every ~60k miles?

Got it fixed for $1200 at the dealer - Water pump and Thermostat. It runs fine now.

Also I told him about the codes for the Cylinder 5 & 6 misfire, he double checked and told me they didn't/ don't see any codes other than the Water pump. Is this normal, to get cylinder misfire codes just before the Water pump failure? I got them just a day before the water pump failed. Strange or not?

BMW 323i water pump failure

This just happened to us in the middle of nowhere way up in Northern British Columbia, yellow low water signal followed up by red, pulled the car over the road to let it cool down and added some bottled water to see if this was the problem, ran it for a few miles then same problem...can you say get a tow truck...fortunately we were able to find someone that did a little research on line a found that the good old water pump completely failed, not an easy task when you are 1200 miles from the nearest BMW dealer, they did not replace the thermostat but all seems well, they could only get a Napa Universal coolant though, should we flush and replace this when we get home or should this coolant work out OK?

Another casualty.
2008 535i with 74k miles.
Same symptoms of loud fans -> yellow warning -> red warning of course in rush hour traffic.
I called around but all the indies I trust in the Minneapolis area are out a couple weeks (track season and all) so I'm biting the bullet at the the dealer, who can get me in first thing in the morning.
The higher bill will be about the same cost as a rental for an extended period so it's a wash, and my days of crawling under a car on a concrete garage slab are about over. Just glad it didn't happen in the middle of South Dakota on the way to visit the in-laws in Wyoming! But disappointed in BMW again.
First was an electrical short in a module in the trunk due to moisture. Hint: seal up that stuff. People put wet stuff in trunks.
Next was bad seal on headlight housing after replacing an angel eye bulb. First car wash fried all the electrics in the self-leveling, self-turning, self-aware headlight assembly - $2600 at indy shop.
Now this. I worked on my heavily modified 2.7T Audi S4 all the time, which was not a reliable vehicle by any stretch, but I could do just about any job short of turbos. Now I prefer to pay someone else to do it, just not so often for such crap reasons.

I think that's optimistic in many cities. I won't be surprised if they want north of $1600 at a Minneapolis stealer. Will know tomorrow.

It's hard to understand why it's so expensive, I did mine in 3h without ramp. With ramp, it will be easy to do it in 2h.

Mine died last week at 116k. Have they addressed this with newer (F series) BMWs or is BMW just content for failing pumps under 100k (except me lol) that leave people stranded?

Probably not. Water pump failures are common even going back to the E30 and E36 days.

If anything BMW is getting cheaper and cheaper with their hardware so they likely look for failures outside of warranty, it provides job security.

Well, my fan is running all the time, had a yellow coolant light warning on the dash today, added a bit of coolant and the light went away but due to the fans all the time I'm thinking the pump is going. I'm gonna do the work myself, my question here is wheres the best place to buy?

http://www.ecstuning.com/News/BMW_E9...PumpThermostat

ECS tuning has a few packages... I would like to go with ECS's package thats $487 vs the OEM kit which is $564... anyone have any experience with it? Or should I just bite the bullet and fork over the extra $80?

Any other sources for better pricing on OEM parts?

My car has 80,9XX miles... of course literally one month outta warranty aint that about a bitch.
