Derailing this thread for a moment...

Do you guys believe dreams tell you something?

Earlier today I mentioned I had a sad dream last night. I lost a family member May 18. I had my first dream about her since her death last night. I get home from work this evening and theres a card in my mailbox from my Mothers childhood friend expressing her sympathy. Made me really sad but happy at the same time. Coincidence?

I used to believe in dreams...how they are a hidden message to what's trying to be told.
Of course being half Japanese, you believe everything has a meaning behind it.

No, it's common for your brain to be thinking about something subconsciously while sleeping, especially something stressful or traumatic. Also, people send cards after deaths.

^Yeah youre right.. she passed away almost a month ago and I recieved a lot of flowers/cards the first week after and then everything stopped. Just felt nice that one more card came the same night/morning she visited me in my dreams.

I don't get de-ja-vu, but could you have a sense of things repeating because there's a 'message'?

Recently I came upon the explanation that dreams are metaphors. In other words, when you experience a dream it is a re-telling of a story that your subconcious (or whatever it is) thinks your concious (what you're aware of) should know.
For example, I used to dream my teeth were falling out, which was freaky, but after I saw the explanation that it meant you were being separated from some power or ability in life (for me it was my mother controlling my father against me), I never had the dream again.

I have countless stories. Both home (2 different homes) and a particular workplace that I used to work at.

No joke.

This may sound lame coming from a girl but I too had re-occurring dreams but in some sort of a mall that I have never been in (if that makes sense). All times I'm lost in the same location and wandering around.

De-ja-vu occurs because our brain cycles through likely scenarios based on information which it knows while we sleep. For every dream that you remember since it was so strange there are hundreds that you don't. You may be dreaming about walking through the hallway to get to your office or just driving down a 5-second stretch of road that you know well and then when you do these in real life you remember and have de-ja-vu.

Dream interpretation is bunk unless it is introspective and self-made. Sometimes the dream does mean something but the symbology won't make sense to anyone but you. That said, you can actually learn a lot about things like body stress through self-interpretation of dreams.

No it wasn't. Provided what you have experienced, I'd have felt the same way.
Cut yourself some slack girl!

My stupid dog again. She woke me up after I went to sleep. My bed is not high off the gound. (I wish I had one of those high sleigh beds but I dont) Regardless, she can jump up in the bed all by herself. She does it every night. Anywho she wont jump up in the bed. I had to pick her up and put her in the bed with me. Then she wont lay down. She keeps freaking staring at the wall behind me. Of course there was nothing on the wall and nothing there. But never the less it wigged me out and she and I slept in the spare bedroom last night lol. God damn dog.

My co workers are laughing at me.

it's cheaper to just get another dog than to sell your house and move out.

if you need to get rid of your dog, just let me know - i know people.

So dejavu is a concious re-occurance of a scenario previously encountered in dream state? Any idea why it occurs?

Yeah, I was talking about my interpreting my own dreams, not something I was actively seeking to do, it just occured, and i found the insight very helpful.. but to date only had it happen 1-2 times.
However I find when you're waking up, on the border between concious/unconcious, things seem very clear, by which i mean any problems or questions you may have been asking yourself. This has been mentioned in mediation/subconcious literature before..

If you don't mind me asking, what were you trying to do in the dream? What was your 'state'? Where you trying to find any exit, trying to do something, were you panicked, lost, helpless? If you string together everything that happens in terms of what you were trying to do, what you were thinking and how you were feeling, you may be able to construct a narrative that would strike you as resembling a current dilemma or question in your life in reality.
