Interested to see what this can do on pump gas with an off the shelf tune such as Cobb. Not looking to break 400whp or drag race Corvettes, I just have learned to despise the way the N55 falls on its face above 5000rpm. I've already given the 335i to the wifey and picked up a car for the summer (AP2 S2000, again) but the car will probably stick around the household a few more years so I am curious. This almost seems to good to be true. It probably feels identical to a stock car up through most of the rev range so the wife will never even notice. Perfect.
Now, what will it do on pump fuel? |

Its still the same turbo housing. Due to bigger compressor wheel it can make more boost in high rpm range. More boost means you need more octane. If you run low octane fuel your car wont be happy if boost is too high. For that you need to monitor timings.
I havent done logs in map2 for some time now so not sure what it targets high rpm. With 93 octane car with stock turbo was still happy with 14 psi boost. Map2 does 12 psi 6k i think and 10 at 6.5k? The pure turbo can easily do 14 psi at 6.5k so i think thats a fair increase on pump gas. Now if you add 20% E85 then you would really see a big difference allready. My bet is the turbo can do 19 psi mid range and hold over 16 psi at 6500 with correct octane. Hope flex fuel wires arrive before next weekend so i can do further testing. But so far all is looking great. |

Darkhold,
Thanks for posting all the detailed info. We really appreciate it. I'm glad you're enjoying the added HP! I can't wait to see dyno numbers! Last edited by Pure Turbos; 05-07-2014 at 02:04 PM.. |

Darkhold, you are tuning this with JB4 only, right? I am strongly considering this but am unsure how adequate a JB4 will be to tune without a backend flash, which is not compatible with my ECU.

Yes jb4 tune only.
Today another update: bms flex fuel wires arrived and installed. Did a few more logs tonight and all looks very very good now. Since i needed the FF wires i didnt dyno today. Its rescheduled on May 7th (2 weeks from now). I will see if they have time next week if not its 2 weeks before numbers. I have been gently upping the boost but so far its nicely following the targets which tonight were 17.7 at 4500, 18.6 at 5000 and 5500, 17.5 at 6000 and 16.6 at 6500 And yes butt dyno says its a rocket now Last edited by PeterPure; 04-24-2014 at 02:53 AM.. |

Well 14/15 psi till redline is np with this upgrade. Your car just needs to be happy with the octane I suggest ordering a big barrel of E85 for in your garage. Add 1.5G every time you fuel up and you are good for 16 psi

I guess 15 is doable. But you have to log and see that your car is happy octane wise.
Np happy i can give some feedback |

Another update:
I pushed the turbo a bit further today. It looks like it can hold 19.5 to 20 psi in the 4500 to 5500 range tapering down to 17.5-18 psi at 6000 and still doing 16.5 to 17 psi at 6500 and around 15 psi at 7000. As long as you have the octane to support it offcourse. The car is just insanely fast now. Above boost levels is not what I will run everyday. I think I will settle for 18psi at 4000 pushing 18.5 towards 5500 and 17.5 at 6000 going to 16 at 6500. But nice to find out what she can do. Cant wait to dyno may 7th and i am very curious about the results |

Very cool. Are you just messing with the values on map 6 to achieve this? How does the fuel pump look at these numbers? Fuel trims hanging in there?

But I think I leave it at these boost levels. Already more than I ever expected. I think I will settle for 18 psi at 4k, 18.5 at 4.5,5,5.5k rpm and 17.5 at 6k, 16ish at 6.5k for a day to day map. That way I dont need that much E100 in my mix. And I guess its a bit better for longevity But I will dyno both max setting and my daily map just to see the difference. And maybe I will dyno as well with my daily map minus another 2 or 3 psi so you guys that plan running lower octane will see what you can get. |
