even with those turbos, i don't see how high we can go with a cylinder pressure of about 10.5, which is ridiculously high.

A couple of them that come to mind are HPF e46 m3, and the ls2 gto with twin gt35 turbos. Thats with stock internals, ect.

Here is a helpful formula to pick up nice turbo with little bit of lag time with huges power. VE base on 2 valve per cyclinder = 80 -85 % 4 valve per cyclinder = 90 % to convert Liter to cubic in ( Liter x 61 ) To convert cubic to liter ( Liter / 61 ) 1 st To find out what is your PRessure Ratio ( 14.7 (strok) + Boost (psi)) 14.7(strok) = 2nd get your cfm: CFM = CID X RPM X VE (volume efficiency) x PR ( pressure Ratio) / 3456. 3 rd CFM into lb/min = CFM /14.27 = lbs /min Finally you need to place a dot on your turbo map. Target point would be in the center of the ring Sample, Lets calculate CFM for a 4 valve 3.0 L and 183 cubic inches. Max power at 6400 RPM. You want to boost to 10 lbs. 1st PR (14.7 + 10 ) / 14.7 = 1.68 2nd CFM = 183 ci x 6400 (RPM) x .90 (%) x 1.68( pr) / 3456 = 516 3rd 516 /14.27 = 36.97 lb/min Conclusion it is perfect turbo for your car. Rule of thumb plot a dot on lb/min ( horizo) and plot a dot on your (vertical). Make them intersect each other like this + Rule of thumb whenever it intersect each other. anything on the left from the center ( smallest oval shape) is too big, anything is from the right from the center ( smallest oval shape) is too small. here is an sample of Turbo map look like.. ( the smallest oval ring within oval ring is your target) anything within that oval. you should get little lag. Last edited by LACA335i; 11-06-2007 at 11:10 PM.. |

good point, but remember that the stock internals from an e46 m3 are not even comaprable to the N54. I'm not trying to cause a debate, just pointing out a couple of things. the ls2 gto is a good example though.

Stock internals making that much power is most likey on borrowed time. Its hard to run at 200% over stock power and except everything to work properly as the day you bought it from the dealer.

No, the turbo on the BMW is unique to it.

I think for 2008 BMW put slightly different turbos in the 335i because of some minor issues. A local member had his turbos replaced with the new ones bc the old ones are leaking, he said the new ones are smoother, not sure about power though.

Post #65. On a dyno dynamics dynomometer, reads less than a dynojet. Shiv, its a rolling dyno, the rpms dont match because we didnt tap under the hood, we tried to match revs on the dyno, none the less you get the point. |

Where were you picking up tach signal then? Why didn't you base it off of speed? Besides that your power starts dropping at the top end as well. They are all going to regardless of the tune. The stock turbos just run out of breath up there. |
