Bourbon that isn’t from Kentucky? That’s about in the same category as Champagne that isn’t from France.
I’ll pass. |

I pretty sure what I'm about to state is correct, Bourbon has to have a certain mix of ingredients, and be distilled in Kentucky to be called "Bourbon". It can then be shipped elsewhere, and bottled there. For example. Widow Jane is an excellent Bourbon, it's distilled in Kentucky, and bottled in New York. There are a number of other Bourbons that are bottled in other states than Kentucky. That's probably why the "not distilled here" type of message is on the Bourbon from Illinois.
Oops, this is not correct. What Maynard states is correct. Bourbon can be distilled outside of Kentucky, and still be called Bourbon.

I believe this is incorrect, but a very common misconception - "Bourbon" does not need to be made in Kentucky to be called that, but it does need specific ingredients and aging (at least 51% corn, and aged in a new charred barrel). This particular bottle is spirit that they purchased, since theirs is still maturing. So many bottlers buy their stock from one of the major distillers that they refer to 'paintline distilleries' (i.e. a paint line designates which barrels are going to these different 'distilleries') - since the ageing and blending are so much of the flavor, this isn't always a bad thing (more like a modded watch or a Singer Porsche than a simple knock-off).

It's pretty tasty, but not better (IMO) than Gentleman Jack. I've had other bourbons that were sourced from the big producers and bottled by another "distiller" and they were similar to this one. I probably won't buy this again just because it's as pricey as Gentleman Jack, so why not get GJ to begin with.

Okay guys... I came up with quite possibly one of the tastiest cocktails ever!
I had been wanting to try this because I love Ginger Ale and I also love Lemonade. But I also really enjoy this particular liquor. Combined on the rocks... MAGNIFICENT! |
