Annnnnd that's why she is no longer my fiance

But on a real note, I'm thinking of just swapping out the springs. I can't seem to find swift springs anywhere for the e93. I'm wondering how the Dinan performance springs would do.
Dinan springs are pretty decent from what I've heard. If say maybe try xdrive oriented springs but the weight is kind of reverse

Most obnoxious car I've ever experienced. Absolutely hated it before he bought it. Learned to love it fairly quickly. A literal gokart. Slow, light, and loud. Lol. Got it for 1200, sold it for 3 after taking off the scoop and plastidip on the hood
This was my previous car. It's an '06 that I've had since '09. Absolutely great car and a blast to drive. It feels like a toy now that I'm used to driving an E90! But toys are fun! I hope it lasts her another 10 years!

I went with stock sport springs and Konis for the same reasons as you.
Well most of of the same reasons... :-)

Good compromise for crap roads in my opinion.

Aaand that's why I said eff it and went with B4's and stock springs, and tossed the runflats. But in my circles, a low riding car doesn't turn any heads, but an e91 driving up to the camp site loaded up with camping gear and a sound system does. I even considered swapping in X1 struts

Never would I have thought a thread I started over 10 years ago would reach 20k+ posts and still remain on the front page from time to time!!
I am completely amazed by all the posts and contributions.

Well...this post won't be what I did to my car today but more like what I've done to my car. I have done some work on my car over the last several months.

Last summer we had some extreme downpours that caused water damage.

Once this water issue started happening, I was having all sorts of electrical issues like the iDrive going in and out, windows inoperable, lighting issues, unable to lock/unlock the doors, airbag light, and a whole mess of other issues.
At the time I was too busy; I didn't have the time to put in the work to troubleshoot and fix my issues. Also BMW's and electrical issues just don't mix well with me so I decided to purchase another car.

Once I purchased the other car, I wanted to at least fix my car's water damage to sellable condition. First thing I wanted to do was resolve the water issue.
After several days of troubleshooting, I discovered my issue was the driver side vapor barriers. Funny that my issue was somewhat related to the 1st post of this thread.

I removed a good portion of my interior. While my interior was being taken out, I sent my FRM module out to get serviced since a lot of what was happening electrically pointed right to it.
Surprisingly the turnaround time for servicing the FRM module was quick.

There was a lot of water. There was more water in the rear than there was in the front.
These carpets are super absorbent.
Here is a video of how much water is still in the carpet after multiple passes with a wet vac.

I detailed the carpet to get rid of the wet, moldy smell. I used a Bissel carpet cleaner to pick up as much of the water as possible - this carpet was extremely dirty.
This is how dirty the carpet was. The water I picked up from cleaning my carpet was darker than the color of my car.

After several passes with the Bissel, I let the carpet air dry inside the garage using multiple shop fans.

While vacuuming out the inside, I noticed that the X1716 connector by the footwell was corroded.

While attempting to clean the connector, some wires broke due to the corrosion. This issue may have been like this for quite some time but I never noticed anything prior to the water damage.

Instead of trying to repair with the X1716 connector, I decided to remove the connector altogether and directly connect all the wires.

Each night I ran a dehumidifier inside my car to get rid of all the moisture as possible. I used a forced air propane heater to dry up some of the stubborn areas on the carpet.

At this point, I had two issues lingering. One was I had no lights on my right tail light, and the other was the airbag light. I discovered some broken wires inside the trunk lid wiring gaiter grommet. I decided to swap out the trunk (due to rust) and repair the wires.

Here is the finished product. I'll remove the 328 badge since it's a 330.

So I'm finding myself wanting to fix anything I could without overdoing it but that failed miserably. I was looking anything I could fix - mechanically that is; it was an addiction.
I had some doors sitting in the garage that were in better condition than the ones currently on the car.

Once I got most of everything done I was left with the airbag light. I am unsure how water damage would cause the airbag light to come on.
I was happy to see majority of the modules that were previously red now showing up green.

ISTA said I needed to replace my airbag module. Purchased a used one from eBay; it was fairly inexpensive.

Last bit of work I did a week ago was replaced the radiator

At this point, I've put in so much work into fixing all the issues that I no longer want to sell her. At this point I have zero issues....for now.

As for the new car I purchased....

Great work and congrats on the new car! Did you ever remove that vapour barrier? A lot of vapour barrier seals leak if they aren't replaced

I’m rebuilding all the vapor barriers on my e46 currently. It’s fun!

My tips are to remove what you can of the old butyl. Then when you install the new butyl be sure to heat it with a heat gun briefly so that it all glues back together nicely.

Messy job!

Well yesterday was another busy day for the e90.

Cleaned intake manifold and idler pulley off alternator.

Installed OFH. In the re-inistallation of said unit, I noticed that something didn't feel right. OFH went on fine, but when installing the filter it seemed like something was missing. Something was missing! My oil cap had tabs inside for something that was obviously not there. (My 1st go around with an e90) It was the filter cage that was missing. It was not attached to the filter cap when I removed it. Nor was it in the filter I removed. I checked. Apparently the last person to do an oil change on this car screwed the pooch. Amazing the things you find when you pick up a used car cheap. Fortunately I only drove it home and no further. I hate to ask due to potential paranoia but what is the potential problem created by leaving that out? Better to know now.

I was able to find the complete cap locally today and picked it up.

Next was swapping out the CCV stuffs and re-installinig the intake manifold. No joy in that job. Glad I had a 16 year old around to help. The engineer that thought it would be cute to attach a whole mess of wires and vacuum lines to a bracket bolted to the underside of the intake manifold is a special kind of masochist. I'd suggest they be taken out and flogged, but they would probably enjoy it.

After that I installed the new alternator.

That was all the time I had available.

Next is flushing the cooling system to get any traces of green out before going back with the correct solution. I have installed INPA and ISTA and picked up a K-DCAN cable from bimmergeeks. Curious where the procedure for bleeding the cooling system is located in the software as I haven't had much time to dig into it yet.

+1 on the tip about using a heat gun on it after installing. This will help the barrier stick properly when reinstalling.

In addition, I recommend that anyone doing this place the butyl tape roll in the fridge or freezer for about an hour or two beforehand. This will allow you to work with the butyl tape without it being a sticky gooey mess. Then once you have it on the door frame, you can apply heat via a heat gun and presto, all done!

Dirtleg you'll get a kick out of this then. If you want to make your life easier with this car, get ProTool with their bluetooth adapter. It's an android app that does just about everything INPA & ISTA does. So much easier imo. I bought it when it first came out, easily one of the best investments I've made for the car to date.

Yeah I have looked at the protools stuff. Looks nice. But $150 for the diagnostics and coding setup is not in the cards right now.

For now parts are in the budget, software is not. I'll squeak by with INPA and ISTA until I change my mind.

Now if I ever get an e91 6 speed manual or 335d (both on my list, and yes I saw the 335d e91 swap thread somewhere ) I will for sure have Protools in the car at all times.
