Love touch-up paint direct. Good to know their spray cans are as good as their other products.

Yeah I was very surprised. The car still has its original paint so i thought there would be some mismatch due to fading, etc but it's perfect.

Voltage Regulator Swap

I replaced my voltage regulator on my 180a alternator. On my e91 328i there’s not much room to get after those t20 screws between the back of the alternator and the intake manifold. So I made a tool with a little 1/4” closed end wrench and a t20 screwdriver hex bit. I taped it so I didn’t have to fish it out from falling in the belly pan when dropped.

The Bosch regulator I took out had 105k miles on the original alternator. You can see the difference in the brushes length. The inner brush was worn a bit more. Also grime in the heatsink too. Took about 1.5 hours mostly grappling with the t20s of which there were 7 with 3 on the cover and 4 on the regulator itself. I yanked the snorkel and air cleaner housing for more wiggle room too.

There is a tool made for tight spots.
Works great on wheel well liners.

Really threw my wallet at it today. Bought a top mount speedtech kit with a 6262, condor speed shop UHMW rear subframe bushings, & ECSTuning 28mm front sway bar

I kept hearing a chirping noise in the morning but not in the evening. I figured it was my belts or something.

It turns out it's literally birds chirping outside.

Oil change, and had my summer tires/rims installed. First time trying out the Michelin PS4S tires. 275/35ZR18 at the rear, and 235/40ZR18 at the front, mounted on MRR GT7 rims in satin black. Looking forward to exploring the performance of these tires.

That will have to wait a bit though, as it's pouring rain, and only about 7 *C (45 *F) here, today.

The rims and tires look SO much better than the 17" Style 163s with Hakka snow tires on them.

Boy does she ever need a bath (and a repaint)...

Cheers!

Don't mind my messy lil workshop in the background. If you're wondering where my jackstands are, they're uh, not here.

Mocking up the front end don't worry, it's nowhere close to done

DIY? I want to install these but only if they can be installed without needing to completely remove the subframe. Aluminum 100% requires complete removal to press them in so that is out of the question for me.

After finding the tool pouch in a compartment I didn’t know I had (I thought I’d just find the stereo amp in there), it had the one thing I didn’t have with my e46 tools, the tow hook. So today I combined them all into one set with a couple extra items from my old 330cic.

Yes DIY. Watched a video on these and you dont have to completely remove the subframe. Ill be using the ebay tool by forsvara engineering. In the same boat as you about wanting to go aluminum.

I'm still chasing a rear rattle when going over rough roads. I think it started shortly after I installed new shocks last year along with new upper and lower mounts, but I don't know for sure. There's a (small) chance I just didn't notice it before.
  • recently torqued the upper mounts again, then torqued the lower mounts along with the lower shock nut. While I was in there, I inspected the swaybar end links and they seem solid - no slop or noise.
  • had the rear deck off months ago and added a lot of felt and extra foam so there are no squeaks and rattles from there.
  • removed the insert under the trunk floor and remove the battery cover - noise still there.
  • added felt tape under the bluetooth module and bracket, and added similar felt under the amplifier. Rear rattle still there.
  • checked my folding seats, they're not rattling.
  • checked my battery bracket and it was loose. Someone had installed it and put the clip UNDER the battery so the battery was rattling around. I installed the bracket correctly and the battery is now secure, however the rattle is still there.

It still sounds like it's related to the suspension but I don't know what else to check. I have the solid Monroe shock mounts, and the only thing I can think of is that one is either broken or I somehow managed to mess up the installation. My next step is to remove the upper shock mounts completely (not just re-torque) and reassemble to make sure they're seated properly.

Or I may just switch to the BMW shock mounts with the softer foam and install B4 shocks at the time. When I replaced my suspension I installed Bilstein B4 struts up front but had to go with Sachs shocks because the Bilsteins were out of stock.

Pushed my new Falken Azenis r660 for the first time. Holy shit these tires are amazing through the tight corners. I know the e9x has great handling qualities but these tires make it next level.
