Actually, I think that BMW is the owner of the M badge and can put it on whatever they choose. This thread is about those who put an M badge on something that BMW didn't.

Perhaps some of these cars have had procedures performed at the local plastic surgeon. Maybe the owners were a bit self conscience of their car's overly endowed body parts and they simply wanted to live a life without being under the constant barrage of attention. A little nip and tuck and a badge to remind them of what they used to be; you know the proverbial putting on of the pants they used to wear.

O.K., unlikely, but just a thought.

It's not strictly BMW, other manufacturers do the same (Looking at you Mercedes, and your AMG package).

But I agree. It's marketing at its finest and they know the badge will bring a premium.

Personally, I'm not a fan of any M badge on non M cars. This includes even factory M badges on cars like the M235/40, new M550i and M760 as well as the upcoming X3 M40.

It's even worse when the customer actually puts it on there...hence 99.9% of this thread and the hilarity that ensues.

Why did BMW have to call it Msport, why not just a "Sports Package" or BMW performance? All it does is bring confusion and people with Msport think they're driving real M's lol.

Can't tell you how many people have told me they drive an //M....and it turns out to be a basic 3/5 series with an Msport package

Eh I give it a pass since it's all OEM stuff but with all those M Perf parts, a M3 isn't much that much more expensive

That could be true, but remember we are going to mod that m3 also, so the price will go up and up. We like to go through the mod process on any model you start from.

Well, here maybe, but most don't mod their cars.


The only issue I have with yours is that it is de-badged, kind of like you don't want people to know it's a 335i, that you want them to think it's an M3.

Its debadged for a clean look, but it also says F335i on the plate and there is non m3 on it. People does know car knows, people who don't will confuse anything that has an m on it, even a potato.

It's ok in my book as no ///M badge was added to the rear or grill.

Not sure why the owner wouldn't just buy an M3 but to each his own.

That may be true but they are slapping it on everything they can. The people who know that badge are the ones upset by it being on 'not real ///M" cars. The rest are oblivious to it and don't care, so why bother?
