Broke it. (That's oil on the side of the car)

I took advantage of the mid 50's weather and did an oil change. It was 400 miles past due (8K), nothing unusual in the filter just dark saturated oil.

I swapped my preLCI climate controls for LCI. No more “rest” button, which I used once in the 6 years I’ve owned it. And that was just seeing what it was. Now I have an “all” button and it’s wonderful!

Got to finally drive it. Filled her up for the first time in a LONG time. It feels so good to be behind the wheel again.

I'm going to go ahead and jinx myself.
Sitting at the zen state where I don't feel like there is anything that needs to be fixed on the wagon. Salvage yard rear end is nice and quiet. After much trial and error, I have about 1,000 miles of cautiously optimistic success with plug antifoulers on my O2 sensors. Finally had the AC system serviced. Evacuate, then add some oil and recharge to spec. Quieted the AC compressor whine completely.

Not around here much but I figured I'd check in.
Over the last few days I've done: Powerflex Yellow Rear subframe inserts Rear shocks, mounts, bump stops, Oil pan gasket, Valve cover gasket, Unclogged Valvetronic Squirter.... Motor mounts and trans mounts, Struts, mounts, bump stops, Installed new PS reservoir, Rear CCV Hose, Injector O Ring replacement, Sealed the paint to hopefully get it though the next semester of neglect, Swapped the un-melted taillights from my other 330 and installed red LEDs in the housings, And did the once-yearly cleaning and greasing of every mechanical body component (door handles, latches, hinges, seat rails, glovebox, accessable HVAC actuator hinges, etc) Oh and I ordered a FLA mirror to retrofit auto high beams some time soon A lot of work, yeah, but it was much needed love after being put aside semester after semester for school and other car projects. |

Running dual oil coolers. Stock mated to a 25 row -10an. The 19" BBS ripped the stock one down and spewed oil everywhere. Luckily the major drainage happened overnight while it was parked. Local tuner shop quoted $500 to reroute the lines to the aftermarket oil cooler, delete the stock and then oil change. So I got lucky.

I thought on the E90 heated and M sport was not a thing. At least not on 2010 E90 option list.
- non sport + heated was available - sport + heated was available - M and non-heated only option available. I had to do a retrofit : sport non-m + heated , and new stitches and OEM M face plate. |

I did a similar thing as you on my e70. M sport+heat +lane departure was not available. I retrofitted the heating element from a heated base wheel to my m sport wheel. Removed Nappa leather, put heating element and leather back on with new stitches. Figuring the wiring was a little tricky. I might take my m3 wheel apart and add heat to it too. |

Oh yes, very much so.
Given it was all done in 3-4 days and I don't have a lift, I am physically beat to crap after that! But one good drive and it reminded me why I do it. The car doesn't really ask for much, this is the most work I've ever done to it, but I wanted to get it back into near perfect mechanical shape so that's what it took. |

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Fortunately, it's not that difficult of a job given the tools and equipment I have at my disposal. Time consuming, but a fun project.
Unfortunately, if the E90 wasn't at 419,000 miles, I wouldn't hesitate about replacing the subframe. It's hard a decision point now. I have plenty of other vehicles to drive, so not having the E90 will not affect my transportation needs. The reasons for keeping it are: (1) it's my only 4-door sedan, which comes in handy sometimes, (2) it's my beater that I can drive into the DC metro area or park at the airport (very rare) when I need to. (3) it's the last of the legacy BMW classic 3-Series; I still to this day regret giving up my 1989 E30. If the E90 just didn't drive so damned nice it would be an easier decision. But with the subframe compromised I'm not going to drive it hard until I fix it; it would suck to be on a backroad or worse, on the corkscrew, and have the left rear wheel break off at speed. The reasons for considering finally pulling the plug are: (1) the AC system needs a rebuild; the evaporator may finally have a leak and it's definitely not worth pulling the dash to replace it. (2) the radio CD player is about to give up the ghost, which I think may be a parasitic draw issue. It has trouble ejecting the disk, and when empty, I keep finding it running the disk drive motor to load/unload a disk. So, I really need to replace the head unit. (3) the left headlight is seriously fogged over now. I probably can unglaze it, but I think the plastic is finally spent. It was a used part I sourced at the last deer hit at 350,000; it was a shitty condition light when I received it. (4) my old pickup truck needs work too. I need to keep the pickup in the fleet. I'd rather drop money in the truck. 1st World problems - LOL. Follow up. I found a good source for used BMW parts where I sourced a differential from a few years ago. They have a few rear subframes for under $150. Considering the price, I'll probably replace the subframe... After I replace the front left halfshaft on the Hummer (starting that in a few minutes)...
