To continue the headlight theme I restored the right headlight with the Rain-X restoration kit. Spent a good 1 hour and 40 minutes sanding and polishing through all 4 steps, the result is "Chalk n Cheese" in real life. In the images you can see the deatil in the eyebrow.

The final sealer step really did bring it to the looking good result.

Fixed the oil temp sensor.

DIY / write up to come. Lots of misinformation out there (including in ISTA no less), and from what I found, somewhat inevitable on the E9x given how the wiring harness is run.

Today I just was doing a general checkup on the car, hooked up ISTA and it ended up bricking my FRM which was fun. Replaced the battery preventatively for an AGM battery since the FRM was bricked anyways, hopefully will get it repaired locally and back in tomorrow.

Coding scares the hell out of me for just this reason!

2nd time I've bricked the FRM, so far during my ownership I bricked the DME once and the FRM3 twice. Pretty bad luck with electronics if I say so myself. I do plenty of coding though and honestly it's not too scary. I know a guy who lives just a block away that does FRM repairs and other electronics repair for BMWs, he repaired my FRM in under half an hour.

A good neighbor to have! I'd settle to just had an independent shop near me that would touch coding. But nope...

Dragged an E90 with 3 missing wheels, basically sitting in the dirt with the e70.
I wonder if the E9x awd system would’ve been able to do that?

It was only about 35 ft. Enough to get it out front for the tow truck.
I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to drag it. It rained all last week and it has street tires.
Nice to see it do it though.

Modifying shifter for sneaky activation switch. I will tap a 6mm hole in the actual shifter though the leather, reason why I cut the side out of the cover to make room for button. Not my first go at Nitrous by the way. I prefer full control backed by proper safety inline pressure switches.

You need to get yourself a sport steering wheel.

Glad to see you wrapped your intake with gold tape. How much cooler is that Guatemalan air coming in?

Managed to get the old school BMW Connected app working - really cool!
Works on my 14 Pro in 16.3 flawlessly, except for Twitter (not that I care about that though).

Got lucky and realized I’d downloaded it on my dad’s 4S in 2012, and that it was still tied to his account. Unfortunately it’s no longer available from the App Store…

Didn't check mail when I got home so I went this morning before work. Think I will paint this at work, maybe black.

About a 7mm hole will be tapped and button mounted within then ran to a relay to support amp draw from solenoids.

That gold doesn't look good at all.

Noticing water at the battery compartment in the trunk recent weeks, pushed in two pigmats to soak it up around the battery, again... plan to troubleshoot where it is coming this weekend.

How I discovered this, I had a small water bottle with a thick rag at the section where the tools are that is on top of the battery. A month ago, I noticed the water bottle had emptied and the rag was all wet. I figured the bottle had leaked. I checked the batttery compartment, there was some water at the bottom. Didn't want to remove the battery, the water wasn't much. Soaked it up with some paper towels and pigmats. But as I have been watching it since, it never got fully dry there. Then I noticed when it snows or rains the water accumulates. Initial thought it had gotten a hole at the bottom from rust and as I drove in snow or rain, splashing water was making its way in. I had noticed rust developing there on the outside this summer and had put some paint.
But then this week it was snowing and raining and the car was parked, not driven. Checking the battery compartment again, I see more water accumulated there. So it can't be coming from bottom. It is leaking from top somewhere. The felt lining on the inside near the wheel well feels wet too. I can't feel any other section wet, or showing signs of water damage. Not sure what the source is. Will have to remove the trim and liners in the trunk and pour water from top to find out.

Most common leak sources are the tail light lens gasket failing and the sunroof drain clogged

The weight of the x5 really helped you get traction here.

I’d imagine that be the biggest issue with using an e90 as the tow vehicle. As soon as the drag of the wheel-less vehicle exceeds the traction of the towing vehicle it won’t be going anywhere…

That is encouraging with the e70. Makes me happy to hear as I have basically the same truck, F15.

How do you brick anything with ISTA, we’re you using D or P? What were you doing?
