I have it and i do not have a tune. Im starting to notice some oddities with it. I get rough idle, almost like the car is cammed..

It only happens if i drive the car and shut it off only to start it back up less then 10 minutes later. During driving its fine but the odd idle has me thinking i either need to get a tune or take the intake off.
It does happen to my car. My car is completely stock other than the MPE

What's your review since you had it from 2018?

AFE drop in

Are you running a tune? I am bone stock rn and looking to do a chip, chargepipe and intake. Would you suggest the AFE drop in filter if I do these mods? Like you said, rather put the money towards something else.

Skip intake. Just det a drop in as mentioned. You can read my thread on intakes here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1765289

Get a IC+CP, then tune.

Tune, IC, DP, CP are more important than an intake when it comes to power. With that being said, if you do them and you still want an extra 5-10 HP, the intake will do that.

It's also a great sound mod that makes the driving experience more fun.

I have the AFE aluminum intake with a huge is heck dry filter and also my stock air box with AFE dry pan filter. The stock airbox has a hole cut larger than the M performance box. I like the stock setup I have a lot, the engine is always in the power zone but not as responsive as the AFE cold air intake. The AFE CAI kit would be good for higher hp like over 500 hp. Sorry but the Intake kits flow better but the reason a lot of you aren't seeing any real gains is because you need to do what I did. Update your old sensors, Solenoids and so on. My car at 126K idles very smooth especially since I installed the 3.5 bar MAP sensors , both of them which results in boost coming on earlier.

Stock intake box is a restriction even if you're on the stock turbo, and becomes more a restriction with a turbo inlet.

FYI- Switching from the stock N55 2.5bar MAP sensor to the stock N20 3.5bar MAP sensor has nothing to do with when boost comes on. It only increases the maximum pressure value that the MAP sensor is capable of measuring.

The 2.5bar sensor can read a maximum of around 21psi of boost. Normally that is plenty when tunes are set in the 16-18psi range. They can have quick spikes over 20psi but it’s usually insignificant.

But with higher boost tunes that are set over 20psi such as when an aftermarket turbo has been installed, the 2.5bar sensor will max out on the data that it can provide. So a graph showing a data log of boost will show peaks that just cut off completely flat on top at the max value that the 2.5bar sensor is capable of reading, about 21psi.

The only thing different about the 3.5bar sensor is that it can read a higher boost number up to about 36psi. With a high boost tune, a 3.5bar sensor will provide the tuner with an exact boost value instead of a cutoff at around 21psi.

Although there are two identical MAP sensors on the N55, tuners care about the pre-throttle sensor that’s located in the charge pipe. So that’s the one to upgrade if necessary. FCP sells a MAP sensor from VDO that’s about half the price of Genuine BMW. (See photo for part number) I wouldn’t be surprised if VDO makes it for BMW.

Bootmod3 has a setting in the tune configuration where you just check off that the car has a 3.5bar MAP sensor and then flash the tune to the car.

Hope this helps someone!

"Updating" your sensors and changing to 3.5 bar TMAP isnt going to net you any gains unless you have a problem with your existing sensor that you are fixing in the process.

I hated the BMS one. So much whining... and there is no whining that sounds good whether from turbos, kids, or politicians IMO.

Went back to OE MPPK intake and sold the BMS.

Just put on a Kyostar intake I ordered from ebay. Like 200 bucks including shipping to EU. I ordered it because it looked almost identical to MST. No issues on my first test drive. I'm surprised I didn't botch anything. No CEL or anything, and sounds good. Don't know what I would have gained with the MST one especially since it's double the price.

Only thing I'm not sure about is that the aluminum pipe now has some play, because it really isn't attached to anything solid. That's probably a non-issue. Only thing I can see a difference on is the bolt on spot on top is missing, and instead it was aimed down. No place there to attach it anywhere.

EDIT: Found where the bottom connects to the aluminum piece, so I take that back. Pipe is now secure.
