First, the lack of a hood bulge/power dome was considered cost-cutting, and now the same ridiculous perspective is being applied to fender treatment. Does it ever end?!?

Can't believe it works, but it does, and it looks awesome.
I never understood the criticism for the rocker panel. Always liked that part actually because its unique

When the car looks better with a wide angle lens, you have design problems.

That said, like the 928, Panamera, and 1M, I bet it looks much better in person.

Thanks for posting the photos.

I personally love it. It will be my final BMW purchase maybe LCI right before electrification, manual--- would be a lovely add next to my m3 comp.

If I was in my 20s I'd have gone for the more daring red. Its an absolute screamer. Feel the black is more mean but subtle as well.

It's not the same fender. This one's much wider than the G42 fender.

While I agree that they're probably holding back some things for the M2C/LCI refresh, I don't think the lack of embellishments on the front fender has anything to do with cutting costs.

The G87 shares as few parts with the G42 as the F87 Comp did with the F22. And OG shouldn't even be in the discussion, that was not much more than an excellent-handling M235i.

I don't see any egregious cost-cutting; on the contrary, I think they overdelivered. Recall that BMW made you buy a $85k+ CS last time to get this much F80/82 hardware.

I didn't know that, I just assume it was the same 1:1 as the G42 hood. That changes my point of view on the subject. My bad..

I wanna see this in satin or frozen paint to make all the lines more evident. I think there’s many hidden design elements that the factory colors aren’t showing at all.

It's just we shouldn't have to say "I'll reserve my judgements for when I see it in person" for every new BMW release.

No worries. In fact, I think it's the other way around - BMW and M pushed down a lot of typically M-exclusive and 3/4-Series hardware to the non-M 2-Series this time. M mirrors, M hood, CLAR chassis, M Sport seats (some regions), puffed fenders, 3/4 Series iDrive 7 and 8, full-size HUD ... seems to me like they prioritized lifting the average to make a better product to sell more cars/acquire more customers rather than lowering the average to increase margins at the cost of customer satisfaction.

BTW, the F87 also shared its hood with the F22.

I'm aware.. The Competition model had a slightly different hood and part number to accommodate the carbon fiber strut bar, which the F22/OG F87 didn't.

Kind of the same thing they did with this G42/87 fenders here, just flare it out a bit with no cosmetic change, if they are indeed different part numbers.

I personally disagree

No reason to be square

The round fuel ⛽️ door was something unique the other 2ers didn't have ‼️

Satin would have been wholly better. These pictures show the car as none of us have seen it to date. I think it's growing on us all. Very aggressive and masculine styling, kinda retro but with its own unique character.

In one of the BMW Blog YouTube videos it was stated that only the hood, doors, and trunk lid are shared with the G42.

I wasn't on this forum when the F8X M3/M4 came out but was the response as polarizing then as it is now for the G87? This question is for anyone who might've been around to recall how things played out
