Dang that sucks, was really hoping that it would.

This looks really cool.
The previous one looked kind of dated even the day it was released. It looked like it belonged to E92 era.

- Fender flares look more boxy and larger than G42. You can see them in the colored camo pics pretty well. Didn't look like the b/w camo pic above with the red circle (from memory).
Do you recall if the rear bumper reflectors are as pronounced as the render, or in any way appear to be disproportionate?

They look just like the leak pic, which looks very similar to the render.

It's a preproduction car, not the final product. Give it a chance.

Not bad! But I hope for some more aggressive look at the front.

As someone already mentioned…below M240 front is somehow way more mean and sleek to me than the render…

That is one part of the car I didn't see so unfortunately I can't confirm that little detail. I will say however that I would be extremely surprised (and delighted at the same time) if there was an open vent on the front fenders.
Well this sucks now that it seems it won't have them.
Yeah but I'm honestly not surprised. There's no world we live in which the M3/4 don't have fender vents but the M2 gets them

They should have gone with the same design as the g80… hindsight 20/20 it's an amazing grill.

Here's a thought: you know the wild, multicolored wrap from the track day G87? What if each color in the wrap is actually a launch day color? If you look close, there are several colors, and I'm pretty sure that new blue one is one of them. Just a thought.

Understood. Just venting my disgust with the majority of storm drain grilles on the other models.

Agreed. Too angular in a weird way. And I could never get over how squashed it looked from the profile/side. That's one of the reasons why I sold my 21 M2C…

I went for a drive one day with a buddy and his e46 M3. When I parked the M2 next to him, it looked so out of place proportionally. The rear end looked like it was cut off prematurely and the front end looked overdone.

The new M2 front end looks simplified, which I think will age better. It also looks a lot more proportional from the side vs the f87.

Funny bc im completely the opposite. The abrupt fenders are actually one of the main reasons im interested in this car, besides it most likely being the last manual. As a 1M owner, I clearly have a type 🙂
I guess you're getting it exactly how you want..

However, BMW, even going back to the 1M, didn't really did go after the boyracer crowd. Their vehicle bodylines where classy, with a dash of grunt underneath the sheet metal. More a grower, not a shower - so to speak.

This new swoppy direction of the highlighted JDM-esque bodywork was unnecessary. We know what the M2 is, what it represents and who it caters to, no need for it to mimic the appearance of a Civic Type R.

Oh, that manual option.. 😉 BMW sure know what they was doing when they invested the resources to bring it back to at least the M2. It's really the only glue that's holding loyal fans onto the brand.. 😗
Like you, I prefer the classic bmw designs, but there's nothing we can do about it at this point. I think we'll have to reserve judgement until we see it in the flesh. My dealer rep who saw the car in person said the aggressiveness was a bit understated. So I get the feeling this car reads entirely differently in person than it does in pictures, like most modern bmws.
Yea that and the fact that they tried to fit Rolls Royce wheels in a 2 Series body, welded-on like racecar rear fenders are par for the course..

I have compared my F87 to the M240i and the G42 design is definitely more elongated compared to the F87.From the side the F87 looks perfectly proportioned. The front part of the G42 is longer giving the design that elongated look.Maybe the updated fenders on the G87 will help lessen that elongated look. These aren’t the greatest pics but they show the difference between the two designs.

You gotta be kidding me. The previous M2C looks great from all angles, especially with carbon parts. It's probably the one of the best looking BMW of all time.

Does the hood to look to be reshaped, or any meaner? I can't tell if it's subtly changed, or a 1:1 with the 240i

It's the same as the M240i. They only changed the front bumper and fenders in the front due to its wider track, which in turn gives it a more pronounced stance.

Wasn't expecting to get a GTS hood since we didn't get one for the M2C until the CS so will have to go with an aftermarket one
