Turbo leak?
Hi guys
I recently bought CTS Stage 2+ rs turbos with a fresh engine rebuild. Everything was going fine and I was driving home from the mechanics when all of a sudden my car started misfiring and I got some misfire codes and a low boost 30ff code. I had no boost and my car was stuttering. I cleared the codes and 30ff and the misfire codes never came back but I still had no boost. My car makes a loud whining noise when it does try to hit boost and it sounds like a supercharger. I check the boost solenoid lines and the charge pipe as well as inter cooler piping and everything seems to look good. These turbos have less than 50 miles on them, I hear raffling whenever I hit the gas but it’s very settle and hard to hear coming from where the waste gates would be. I can’t really see the boost solenoid line to the waste gate since I have relocated inlets so could it possibly be that or maybe my blow off valve? I just don’t want to believe my turbos broke under 50 miles. Here’s a link to how it sounds turbo sound Thanks for the help everyone |

Maybe one of your inlet hoses popped off?

I don’t know if a inlet hose would cause no boost though, would it? It might be the outlet lost connection to the turbo. I’m not sure, I’m going to take off the downpipes today and check it out

So I took off the downpipes to make sure the turbos aren’t broken or siezed, tested the boost solenoid lines with a vacuum pump, tested the BOV with the vacuum pump, made sure the waste gates work, tested all the intercooler piping and charge pipe. And everything works perfectly fine. I have no clue what it could be. It might be the turbo outlets and that’s the last thing I could think of. Anyone have any other ideas ? I still have a loud whistle whenever I hit boost and 0 boost.

The turbo inlet wouldn't cause a boost leak its just not taking filtered air... but would definitely cause a type of howling sound heres how mine sounds with a the front inlet loose.after doing a turbo swap https://youtube.com/shorts/0o7cMdB0F...euyqrgJdBcW7C3 it kinda sounds like an owl 🦉

Yeah check the outlet clamps as well. I seen a post here not too long ago about the outlet clamps not clamping flush on the turbo. That would cause no boost.

So I took off the downpipes, didn’t find anything. I then suspected maybe the outlets didn’t have any o-rings on them, so I checked that out and they were okay. I just thought of taking off the inlets because I had no other clue what it could be. I go to take off the inlets and the mechanic shop I took it to dropped a bolt down my inlet into my turbo! So I am having them buy me a new turbo and fixing it at their own expense.

so if the bolt did not loose part that was stuck between the blade and housing, and it was simply bouncing on and back on the blades, the turbo should be fine with a simple compressor wheel replacement. I would fight back a bit. but you should be fine if they replace the core, including the shaft, in case it bent. |

Yes luckily the bolt didn’t break apart, I will have them replace the CHRA but I’m going to let them know if anything happens to that turbo specifically, it’s on them just because at this point I’m getting tired of going back and forth with this shop.
