Alternator went out on my 335xi 3/2011 build date. Codes popped and no longer charging. RealOEM lists 12317591533 as for my car. However, availability is only from BMW and costs 1k+ with a 1 month turnaround time.

12317626155 is for cars post 3/2012. It is the same amperage and denso alternator as far as I can tell. It is $300 from FCPeuro.

Has anyone tried using the latter part number? It is serious downtime for my car and would be a huge cost saver. I am well aware the 3/2012 cars have a updated HPFP and DME.

have you tried looking at rockauto? looks like they have reman alternators:

Hi, I wanted to update this thread for future owners facing the same issue on pre 03/2012 cars. I ended up buying 12317626155 from FCPEuro, Denso. Fit fine, and charges fine, however I am getting a 3847 Generator communication fault. Seems to be okay for the time being.
