Hi all, anyone with An E93 might know about water ingress into the boot. After much research it seem to be the tubes that drain water away that get clogged with debris.

Now BMW will charge about £600 to remove the roof to gain access to the top of these tubes ....... however, after much research I found a way to clear these from under the car

My boot was dry all bar a few drips but I did have some water on the nearside quater light after retracting it even though it has not rained for ages!!!

So to access these drain tubes you need to jack the rear of the car uo and just infront of the rear wheel is a rubber mudflap thing. This needs to be removed by removing one panel type plastic fixing and two plastic T25 bolts.

Mud flap thingy


This is one of the T25's and the other is just behind the flap.


Once done you can swing the mudflap away exposing the round plastic drain plug. This you need to twist a bit and it should come out.

This is what you will see once the mudguard is removed


From the side this is the bit that gets clogged with muck and then the water backs up


Once removed about 4 litres of rancid smelly pond water poured out and this was the same side as the wet window. I did the same on the other side but apart from some gunk it was dry.

I fed some flexible garden wire all the way in and it went about a metre up and you can here it rattling about behind the panels. This will ensure no blockages further up.

Cheaper than £600 eh and worth doing to all E93's

Traditionally it will fill up your battery well or the storage box on the opposite side.

I had a few drips on the nearside boot carpet and my nearside quarter window kept coming up with drops of water on it even though it had not rained for weeks.

Its dry now after draining all the smelly water out.

Yes once when I first got my car my logic 7 amp was in 2 inches of water.....bmw wanted to give me all new top seals.... Aka $6000 bill.
I put the amp on spacers and pulled the rubber grommet out that has the vacuum line for the exhaust valve and haven't had any issues since

I had this issue about 3-4 months after I bought mine which ended up shorting out and killing the battery in the middle of West End. Luckily BMW Assist turned up in 30 minutes and where able to tow me home. Took it in the next day where they tried to shaft me with a bill of over £1000 for replacing some rubber seals, new battery and boot floor etc.

I kicked up a fuss to the sales manager as the car was under warranty and they fixed it all for free so worth trying if you have a warranty. I'll definitely check this thread during winter though to make sure it doesn't happen again as I don't think they'll be as generous second time round.

Great post, just released over a gallon of water from my E93 after receiving stupid quotes from BMW just to diagnose where the boot was letting in water - not a hint from them that it could be a blocked drain!

put your thumb in and twist it... can't remember which way but its a very slight turn and it will come out...

an allen key fits in end to give more leverage

Couldn't get the bastarrrddd drain plug out either... Nearly broke my thumb trying lol.

Couldn't even get the mud flap thing off, the two t25's were simple but there was an additional 2 plugs/screws which I just can not get out.

So sort of bent the mud flap thing a little to get to the drain plug which also refused to budge.

Help!

I think if you look at the picture of my plug it's a bit misshaped. I ended up gripping it with some adjustable pliers and it came out after a bit of pulling and twisting.

Checked mine again a few weeks back and they are still clear.

I cannot for the life of me get the plug out. Tried with pliers too. Will not budge, most of the outer plastic on the plug has now been ripped off.

Both plugs just will not budge!

Having this exact problem - water appearing in the left and right hands sides of the boot. This after I just spent 800 quid on a new alternator and cables.

If the plug is something that you can buy and is made if plastic, just drill through it, take it out and then buy a new one

I followed this to the letter but when I got the flap off there was no drainage plug anywhere to be seen... So in the end I used a sponge to mop up the compartment and will monitor... Also I have no drainage hole behind the petrol cap as some posts suggest should be there. Car is a 2006 E90.

that's a good tip, water in the boot of my E93 fried my amp
(if you have an E93 you should follow this method!).
