Posted in the main forum, but I took my car in for an oil service and the wireless charger/digital key recall and drove out with new firmware.

Noticeable differences so far:

New font for the driver's display!

Annoyance: I use Waze for GPS. On my phone I use dark mode, and that meant my iD8 display always appeared in dark mode as well. Now, when I use Waze in the car it shows in light mode on iD8 unless I open Waze on my phone. Then it switches to dark mode on the iD8 display as well.


Anyone else see any other differences?

Just tried Waze for the first time in AndroidAuto after seeing this thread and I like the UI much better, 24/7 dark mode is nice plus cop & hazard alerts are awesome.

Not sure if me being everyone but they release the OTA at different times for different regions and so forth.

This^^^

They push it out staggered around the world. You get notification on your phone first, then your phone downloads it, etc.

Even between my phone and my wife's - there was a few hours difference when we got the notifications for the same car.

According to the release notes, there are new map colours.

Rest of it seems to be “functional updates and improved quality” relating to connected services and emergency call, disclaimer wording in driver assistance systems and other stuff you won’t actually see.

Release notes say you need to re activate your personal assistants including “hey bmw”. Drive recorder settings may be reset and videos deleted. Connected music and notifications my also need reactivated.

It also makes specific reference to the upgrade undoing any coding, retrofits and tuning if not approved by BMW AG or you may experience significant problems or damage after programming of which BMW have no liability.

Does anyone have any experience on this with ID8? For my F22 on ID6, I had a few basic things coded and the dealer wanted to do an update. They warned me about coding and that someone else coded in "other region" parameters which bricked his car and cost him about $1500 to get it up and going again, so I told them to hold out on coding.

I took the F22 in on a separate visit, not to get the software upgrade done, but they did it anyway with my minor coding active - I had no issues.

I have done some basic coding again (remove warning startup screen, seat heating memory, ACC memory (didn't work), and B&W sound profiles). My car is in the verge of doing the update (it's at 85% downloaded). I hope this minor coding has no issue with the update. I'm sure we'd hear of more bricked cars if the issue was widespread with minor coding.

ID8 works fine still with bimmercode for me with the latest update 07/2023.53

1 touch 5 blink have never disappeared with an update for me.
Disabled Auto stop/start
Changed ambient interior color
Seatbelt warning disabled

They must be going east to west

After my update last night: Personal assistant did need to be reactivated, although it still remembered the custom wake word.
The drive recorder videos were still there. No changes to drive recorder settings either.

Update killed my setting where car would start in "Sport Individual" mode by default. Was using that to disable ASS.
Will have to put it back tonight. No big deal.

Oh - and the font changed on the speed indicator. No idea why. Not any better or worse than before. Somebody had a picture of this already a while ago.

Mine failed the update last night, but no issues with the car, I think it just didn't update. It says I need to go to the dealer to turn the option back on. I don't see enough reason right now to bother, so I'll just wait until I actually need to go, or for my first oil change.

Mine updated today - the car started downloading the update itself and just alerted me, ie not via the phone app, but whatever.

• Sports display on the HUD now interrupts itself* to display navigation instructions. Returns to sports display when the turn is made. Handy. Could be a bit annoying if the sports display was more useful though.
• The updated colours on the nav are a huge visibility improvement. The whole road is coloured along, not just a fine line alongside the road. I think the completed section of the route was now blue rather than light grey that blended into the background. Roads not on the route still just have a fine line alongside the road.
• The lightest setting of lane-keeping assist now tugs more strongly at the wheel, or so it seems.

Also as previously noted:

• new font - not one I prefer but no issue. Font is on screen and HUD. The smallest lettering still has the old font.
• as noted in the instructions, I had to reactivate the personal assistant but it remembered my word

Its OTA download ("preparation" in BMW speak) only operates when the car is driving, but picks up nicely if interrupted when you stop somewhere. Installing the app - it warned will take around 20 minutes with the car disabled for the duration. I went to a meeting while it installed and it was finished fine with the car off. So, pretty good as updates go. (I worked in IT and have seen some terrible updates!)

Always did that in comfort mode.

One thing doesn’t work for me anymore and that’s the auto window opening at a given GPS location. Although the menu option is still there I cant access the settings.

Also had to switch the mic back on for the personal assistant.

My range also dropped by around 50 miles.

Strange - my auto window still works just fine without me having to change or reset anything.
