202 MPH in an Audi RS6 in the UK on public roads

It's no longer news that texting while driving is incredibly dangerous—it's common sense. What's more, filming a high-speed run with one hand on the wheel and the other on your iPhone is on another level of stupidity. That didn't stop this Audi RS6 driver from mashing the accelerator and videoing their drive to 200 miles per hour on a public British roadway, though. And if that wasn't brazen enough, the clip was then uploaded to Twitter for everyone to see.

Police are now looking for the daredevil who drove 202 miles per hour on the M23 south of Crawley, as The Sun reports. Luckily, few cars were on the road thanks to most folks sheltering-in-place, allowing the Audi driver a mostly open stretch of highway to perform their antics.

The one-minute video has been deleted from Twitter, though it was also uploaded to YouTube:

Judging by the interior shown in the video, the RS6 is a C7-generation model that makes 553 brake horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8. Normally, the car's top speed is limited to 155 miles per hour, though fitting it with the Dynamic Plus pack ups that number to 189 mph. It's possible that the electronic limiter could've been deactivated for this run, enabling it to surpass the 200-mph barrier.

The video is as wild as you'd expect, with the car starting at more pedestrian speeds and blasting off in a matter of seconds. Although there was relatively little traffic to maneuver around, the Audi still had to dodge and dash around cars that were like sitting ducks on the highway.

This is just one in a list of many high-speed crimes that have taken place since roads across the world have become relatively empty. Whether its door-to-door street racing or donut-crazed sideshows, enthusiasts the world over are wreaking havoc on city streets and major roadways. If you're going to drive fast, do it somewhere that's better suited for high-performance driving. Y'know, like the track.

This wouldn't be rocket science for the investigating authority. Find registered RS6s in the area, start asking who was where at the time of this, which probably isn't all that many. When the stories don't add up, subpoena cell phone records/position information. When you do it in a car with tracking devices, phones, and then post it on the internet...you pretty much deserve whatever negative outcome that happens.

+1 to both of the above. If you want to drive recklessly, do it somewhere that you won't harm innocent bystanders if/when it goes wrong. Also, expect a knock at your door if you're daft enough to advertise your own stupidity.

You'd think that if one can afford a RS6 one can also afford a trip to germany. It's not that far.

Uploading in 360p is the biggest crime though

So we are now complaining about speeding on a BMW forum?

I don't see a big deal here. How many of you guys haven't doubled or tripled the speed limit at one point or another?? Road was pretty empty from the short vid, so why not? I wish he used a gopro instead of the phone, and recorded in higher def. Other than that no complaints from me.

I did 168mph today. If my M2 could go faster, I would have, but still have the pesky limiter in place. It was in more traffic, but here it's legal, so I guess no big deal.

If it's clear, send it.

I've been pushing gov. here to up the limit to 100mph but so far have been stonewalled. They're even dragging their feet over raising it to 80mph which they should have done ages ago.

Reminds me of getting to 150 in my old AP1 S2000...DANGEROUS.

Why? It takes too damn long.

I'm one of those guys that think that 200mph isn't always 200mph.

What I mean is, this guy is pretty nutty, taking a solid minute to get from 60 to 200.

Now imagine he was actually in a fast car, where that journey could be done in half that time, it'd be much less nutty IMO.

Also, I've often wondered why these guys don't just buy a phone mount to keep the camera steady and allow them to keep both hands on the wheel. I guess it's just a last minute hoon for them.

What is your speed limit there and how many lanes are your freeways? I'd love to have a higher speed limit at least 75 MPH, but I think maybe they would if they raise the speed limit to X MPH there's still going to be other drivers who will push their cars over by Y MPH over the limit? I also read before at least in certain parts it has to with fuel usage and pollution.

I remember those stupid days, but I never made it past 135 MPH. The last time I went 120 MPH, I literally almost died after someone, not paying attention decided to quickly change lane in front of me, for no reason at all since there were no cars in front or behind him. I had to slam on the brakes and turn my wheel to not smash in to his car. I almost bounced off an overpass wall twice and then did two 360s on the freeway, which felt like slow motion, where I seen the driver who cut me off driving normal in tunnel vision, not even aware of what is going on as my car literally spun close enough to hit him. Luckily, there was not a scratch on my car after that, and no cops involved. Ever since then, I typically will always keep my car under 80 MPH.
Which is exactly the stupidity of the RS6 driver. Those are 140mph speed differentials. Other drivers can look in their mirror, see it's clear, get over and then there's an RS6 on top of them. Totally stupid to create that large of a speed differential.

I worked in Germany and had the privilege of frequently driving on the Autobahn. I rented a Boxster a few times that would so 168. Since 99% of cars are governed to 155 there, even that small differential was significant at those sorts of speeds and the few times I got passed by Ferraris doing closer to 200 mph, it was still pretty easy to misjudge their closing speeds.

This guy was a clown, and endangered every car in that video. To claim otherwise is foolish.

Because on Autobahn people don't eat and sleep behind the wheel like here in the states lol. Or driving with a dog on there lap. I even see people shave behind the wheel while driving.

The first time you see an accident on the Autobahn, it makes you question going that fast regularly.

[QUOTE=tayone415;26220886]I don't know how people drive with a dog on their lap? The one time I had a dog jump on my lap it almost caused me an accident. The dog was a small puppy that jumped on the floor under my brake pedal during rush hour traffic and I had to move over two to three lanes, luckily I was in an automatic with tiptronic and a real e-brake.

Exactly, I don't see how they let people drive with pets on there laps, and that is ok. I always thought it's dangerous because you never know what the dog will do in the csr. Especially if it's a larger dog.

Me too, especially when I had a previous turbo car (before my BMW) that had a 93 tune option in the tuner I bought (but I could never use it, that was AZ BTW, and the surrounding states). Yes, 93 is available in some places, but hell, probably half the population is missing it.

In some places...you *can* get it, but you have to live in a certain place in the big city, as in a few stations will carry it. Limited and still not easy to get. In others, it's just not even on the menu.

There are people that do a lot of racing and can get their hands on "race gas", usually high octane, sometimes more like 100 (not to be confused with aviation 100LL, you generally don't want that), but again, limited and hard to get ahold of for everyday use.

Lots of myths exist about gas, most of them are just BS, don't read into it too far.
