The most frustrating part of all this is the fact that no-one at BMW can tell me exactly where my car is, or what the plan is to get it shipped out of Continental America to Australia.
It left the factory and I have had the VIN since mid-November 2022. I have seen in other forums that guys have had their cars come out of the factory after that date and have been told that their cars are already on boats, heading to Australia. Even worse... if it makes it on a boat today, it is still at least two months away from the dealership.

6 months is absolutely ridiculous to transport a new car from Mexico to Australia and I am nearly at the stage of letting the frustrations get to me.

I'm afraid I have more bad news for you. It's likely to get delayed in Melbourne before it reaches you in the west. Mine is a late October build, finally got on a ship in January (North American ports are logjammed, reportedly) and it's now sitting in the ocean outside Melbourne waiting for quoted 4-6 weeks before the ship can dock. There's a huge delay on stink bug extermination under Australia's biosecurity laws - not just BMWs, all cars. Unsure why it's such a delay in Melbourne though - the ship has already been through Brisbane and was only delayed a few days in Sydney (Port Kembla, actually). I'm hoping for a mid-late April delivery - I'm leading a BMW club road trip at the end of that month and if the BMW isn't here they'll be following a MINI. OTOH stink bug season apparently runs from Sept to April so maybe you won't get quite so impacted - I hope not for your sake.

Status Update. Over the weekend, my car went from "Order Received" to "Scheduled for Production". I don't know when it's scheduled for yet, but I was told April previously.

2023 M240i xDrive Brooklyn Grey, fully loaded with all standard options. I also added the Carbon Duckbill, Projector Lights, and M Performance Side Stripes.

Mid Sept - Put down Deposit, was told I was 5th in Line for an Allocation
Mid Oct - Moved up Two Spots, now 3rd in Line
Mid Nov - No Allocations
Mid Dec - Moved up One Spot, now 2nd in Line
Mid Jan - Moved up One Spot, now 1st in Line
Mid Feb - No Allocation... BUT GOT THE CALL ON 2/28 that we got it!!
3/18 - Scheduled for Production.

You can call the BMW Genius line at 844-443-6487. They can tell you the exact build week your car will be manufactured.

If you look in the US it shows a bunch of cars as well but they are all in transit and sold already. When you say there are many cars available in Europe do you mean they show as "At Dealership"? Just because they show on the website doesn't mean they are available or at the dealership, most are in transit and sold.

Sweet!, thanks. Timeline updated.

Mid Sept - Put down Deposit, was told I was 5th in Line for an Allocation

3/18 - Scheduled for Production on Week 17, aka the week of 4/23. She said production takes about 2-Weeks, then they schedule shipment. I'd say we are still looking good for a June delivery.

Build week date of completion?

Just to add another data point. I was told my car would be built the 15th week of the year. So the week of April 10th. Well to my surprise today I checked and my car has moved to production begins and a VIN was issued! So either the production week is a completion week, not the start or they were way off. Very interesting.

The ones on the BMW Uk website are available until someone puts a deposit down. When I paid my deposit, the ad was was removed from the website about 10 minutes later.

The ones on AutoTrader as posted earlier are not all physically in dealerships. They are easy to spot as they are renderings of cars rather than an actual photo. They will tend to be cancelled customers orders “en route” or cancelled build slots. That said, dealers will also remove ads when deposits are collected.

Not to rain on your parade but mine is production week 12 (3/19-3/25) and mine entered "Production Begins" state 2 weeks ago and is currently still in that state. I think it's possible that "Scheduled for Production" may give you a build week while "Production Begins" is really a build day or something..

Notably the state is called "Production Begins" but the description says "your BMW has entered the production queue" implying it is only in line to be produced.

Interesting. Have you asked the BMW genius what they see? I have heard the website is slow to update. It sounds like you are the exception. From everything I have seen once production begins, it moves pretty quickly.

So my timeline:

2/24 - called Genius and was told production week 12 (3/19-3/25)
3/08 - vehicle entered "Production Begins" state
3/22 - just now called Genius and was told car will enter production tomorrow 3/23

So my car has been in "Production Begins" since the 8th and will not enter production until the 23rd.

Keep us updated. I’m curious if it actually enters production tomorrow.

This lines up closely with me. Entered “production begins” on 3/9 and when I called Genius yesterday was told it enters production on 3/24.

Production week/date is the day it is estimated to be completed.

Production Begins always happens around 2 weeks before actually entering the assembly line

Hey. I keep hearing ‘production number’ being mentioned. Can someone explain this, and when my dealership would consider it pertinent to let me have one? Thanks.

So my car just jumped from "Ready for Transport" to "In Transit" within the past few hours... Called BMW Genius and found out that it's on the Aphrodite Leader and expected to arrive at the port in Oxnard, California on 3/26.

The wonderful woman at BMW Genius informed me that there's another G42 on the boat with mine so it's good to have company.

So it's starting to look like the first week of April, which is about a 2-3 weeks earlier than I was expecting!

Timeline:

Nov 16th - Order Placed
Jan 2nd - Allocation Received
Feb 13th - Production Begins
Feb 22nd - Ready for Transport
Mar 22nd - In Transit (on a boat)

When your dealership gets an allocation from BMWUSA for the model that you want, your dealership will assign the allocation to you (assuming you’re next up for the allocation). The car will then be in status 112-Scheduled for Production. This is when you will have a production number

Thanks. Pretty sure I don’t have an allocation, nor do I know when I’ll get one.

Hey, your Client Advisor should be able to tell you this. When I put my deposit down back in September, mine told me I was 5th in line waiting for an Allocation. She also told me on average they could receive up to two allocations a month, but also sometimes 0. As you can see from my previous timeline posts, she was dead on. When I got my Allocation at the end of February, she sent me pics of my "Vehicle Inquiry Report" which had my full build, and my Production Number. With this, I was finally able to log into MyBMW.bmwusa.com to track the status of my car.

Anyways, your dealer should know exactly how many people are in front of you with deposits waiting on an Allocation, and be able to give you a rough idea of how often (or not) they get allocations.

I have seen on here that some people waiting for an allocation, have a dealer that has run out of 2023 Allocations, and they are waiting for 2024 Allocations to become available mid-year.

Anyways, hope this helps.

Just another data point. I placed my order March 9th. Just got emailed today (March 24th) that my car is scheduled for production. I was expecting it to take months, not days. 🤷‍♂️Maybe production is ramping up. FWIW, I was first in line when I placed the order.
