There's a lot going for it (S58, carbon buckets & roof option, individual color option, adaptive suspension, better interior) but I'm definitely on the fence until I see the exterior styling

Based on the renders, I still think the F87 looks better but I gotta see this thing in the metal to know for sure.

I don't plan selling any of my cars to get one, but the "last manual" bit is tempting enough to consider adding one. I am just not sure if it is as good as an F82 equivalent that pretty much came with all the lightweight goodies. I love the carbon seats however.

My F87C is such an awesome car, at a great price, that I have a hard time believing that the G87 will be that much better than the F87. I get the argument that it is newer, with better tech, and a more powerful motor. But on the flip side, it will undoubtedly cost more, maybe substantially more, weigh more, have smaller brakes, a more cramped cabin, substantially smaller rear seating area, and maybe have some polarizing looks (good or bad).
So I suppose my question is, is anyone else waiting on details before plunging down money? This could be the G80/82 fiasco all over again.
Can you add a 4th option?: "Hell yeah, but I'm in no rush as I enjoy my F87. I'll get the LCI G87"

I'm on the "we'll see" camp. Don't plan on getting one until LCI anyway if it's going to be truly that good. Until it proves me it's that great, the F87C stays.

Having said that, I don't see point in having big F87 and G87 though.

Interesting opinion regarding not having both F87C & G87...I agree with you and am firmly sitting on the sideline. I absolutely love the styling of the F87C. They knocked it out of the park and I believe it will remain a relevant automobile for years to come...perhaps even highly sought after if Hagarty is correct. I am on the fence when it comes to the styling of the incoming G87 we've seen in sneak peeks. It will be technologically advanced but the older I get the more I value simplicity. A killer combo in the garage would be a 1M and M2C!

I'm for sure waiting. No rush to buy as it's not a need. I'm not married to it either. If a Porsche I want becomes available, then may not end up buying this.

I do agree though that the F87 is an amazing car and one that will be hard to beat.

If I had the old M2 competition sitting in my garage I would probably hold on to that. However, the issue at hand is most bmw cars are not great, how shall we say, Garage cars? They wear out and cost a lot to maintain hence the fun of owning a great car into its later years would be pretty un-enjoyable to me.

I might pick one up to hold for 4-5 years but I would rather get and keep an older Porsche 911 any day of the week.

I have a '15 F82 M4 with low miles and the new M2 is an alternative to the G82 to replace it. But, I have never driven an M2, so I will be waiting until they are out for a full evaluation.

Technically I have money down and I sold one of my cars to make room for it. I'm thinking, based all on what I've owned and liked, that the G87 is the way to go. The bits I'm not so sure about is what the car will be like in Sport Plus vs MDM and if M Drive Professional will be available. When I drove a friends F87, the car didn't feel fast even in sport plus. It felt like it was being limited. I later found MDM and then the car started to have the levels of performance I thought it should. I did kick out the back end a few times. I probably just needed some more time with it but I'm very curious what a RWD car would be like with M Drive Professional. I'm happiest with smaller fast cars.

To be honest, even 1M and M2C would also have too much of an overlap for me, although I suppose if the M2C was DCT it would make sense. There's no such thing as having too many fun M cars, but in my case, I like variety (NA vs turbos, coupes vs roadster, 90s vs 2020s....)

My experiences with both the G82 and G42 have me 100% convinced that the G87 will be a winner. #1 on the list at my local store.

I'm third at my dealer but am frankly having a tough time battling yhe urge to get a c7 grandsport M7.

The targa is hard to pass on for a weekend car.

Fine with me, it's just like the revealing of the M3/4.

The rear end isn't that amusing but we got a shitty angle of it so I'm waiting for the actual reveal

The Civic Type R rear end has more character than the M2.

I mean how much thought did the designer put into the rear?? Even around the exhaust tips… big rectangular cutouts. So lazy.

Should have just used the current rear, redesign a unique and more aggressive fake diffuser over the current Performance as well as a unique CF rear spoiler and call it a day. This is just terrible.
