Would you buy a serpentine belt ingested N52 auto X Drive with sport package for under a 1K to put a newer engine in and sell for a few bucks.

Nothing special it's Monoco over Beige but sport and has L7 stereo. Could be my way of doing a N54 because it's old and emissions exempt.

Great donor for an N54/DCT swap!

If you have the space/time/skills, why not?

Yeah, that's the trick, isn't it!

But add in money/space/time/skills/heated garage (in W. MA!) to the conversation!

Have HVAC garage! Added heat with old reznor camp unit thing is a champ. AC well it's a window unit. Humidity is NE issue in summer, ither than that our temps have now become like VA and we barely get snow anymore. I am toying with selling my JD 2 stage snow blower that I mount on my tractor and just keep my plow.. Garage is 28x26 with a enclosed car port behind it that's 20l and 12 wide.

Can't be that hard too many DIY's out there. I look at E9X as a lego set BMW made every car ouy there with just about every engine transmission combo so it's plug and play with moving some connectors and adding some.

It all depends on what car looks like when I show up.

Yeah, totally mix and match cars!!!

Sounds like a done deal unless it's just trashed. Any chance the N52 engine is salvageable? Getting it going could be the easy way to flip it.

I am going to look at it tomorrow. Owner wants it out of yard so AAA will be towing it home.

If you have the wintertime to do it, pull the N52 and go through all of it and do the gaskets. Open up the bottom on a stand and see what parts are in the pan. If it's toast, no time lost since you had to pull it regardless.

I was thinking something similar... maybe the engine is salvageable. Would be really nice to just open it up and find it wasn't catastrophic!

I've always wanted to rebuild a dead or crashed car, but sadly, I don't have the money yet to do this. I don't know if you guys have heard of the famous YouTuber named Mat Armstrong, but he's the guy I get my inspiration from to do these kinds of projects. Check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@MatArmstrongbmx/videos

Forgot to mention owner sold the car the night before I was going to look at it. Hey he wanted it gone and priced at 800 who could blame him.

if you ever want to do this project, start with a good base.

yes price can help in the decision, but while you'll be in the project, you might wanted to put a couple of grand more to avoid swapping a LCI rear hatch, the cic with car play , sport pack of even the sound system.

Ive enjoyed it, I did not pay extra for these option since it was on the donor, but it was time consuming.

I mean you dont have to, but it's a project, right? you want is all !
