I told my wife she can have ANY SUV she wants after I receive my M2. Little does she know “after" could mean... September?
I said I would teach her manual on my current car if she thinks she might want to drive it. I'm like "bruh, it's easy to learn" (no I don't make a habit of calling her bruh.) |

Most likely don't have to deal with the sort of overwhelming, heavy and relentless traffic of the DC suburbs that you and I have to negotiate every day.
For the first 20 years of driving, I only bought manuals, but when I began commuting from Fairfax City to Bethesda, it became a dreaded chore. The ZF8 in my M240i xDrive is wonderful. When you get on it in Sport+, it bangs gears and really lets you know what it's doing, it eliminates the detached, isolated feeling of most automatics. Put it in comfort and it's silky. |

I chose manual because its not a commuter car.
That's what my 4runner is for. The M2 is strictly for driving pleasure.. Quote:

I would hide the M2 at Camp David before she drives my car in an "emergency"

My Caterham has a similar theft profile - no key, 540kg weight, a start sequence involving powering up the ECU, then waving an RFID tag in a specific area to disarm the ECU lock, then push the button to start after systems are energised. If someone knows the start sequence and has the tag, then they need to contend with a clutch with about triple the expected force and 25mm of useful travel. If I have left the steering wheel on while parked and they manage to get it going, and they have narrow size 10 or less driving shoes (impossible to only operate one pedal at a time with normal shoes), then they will probably crash into the nearest wall after finding the cold un-assisted brakes need about the equivalent of their body weight to stop effectively. |

Hi everyone! I made my order in December, finally went for the auto as here in Spain manual and auto has the same price.
Just sold after almost 2 years with it a GR Yaris (manual, of course), and before had a 2018 RS3. In the m2 in my case y prefer the versatility of the auto as you can have 2 cars in one, relax auto mode or use the beatiful carbon paddle shifters. |

Hello, another person also from Spain. I ordered the M2 precisely because of the manual transmission. For four adults and manual transmission there is no other option in the Spanish market. For two places there are more alternatives but every day less.
For me, a BMW M is a car for enjoyment, and for this a manual transmission prevails over the automatic, and more so thinking that soon all cars will be automatic and there will be no option to buy a manual. |

M240 vs M2 Manual
It all comes down to weather or not you miss rowing your own gears.
The M240 serves multiple purposes. I chose to have a dedicated vehicle for point a to b travel in any kind weather in the form of my 4runner. If I want to drive just for the sake of driving I will have my manual M2. Quote:
