.

Generally European cars are always more expensive due to EU taxes as well as different environment-related legislation (stricter). As a consequence the engines are differently mapped and exhaust fumes are furtherly processed, by adding different exhaust parts to mitigate emissions.

As a rule of thumb, same cars are always more expensive in Europe. I bought my m240i xdrive for $58k in Utah and in Greece (COO) it was $84k for the same exact spec.
Seeing as the 2ers are made in NA now (Mexico) I wonder how that effects import costs.

"the M240i tips the scales at a portly 1,765kg, which is 315kg more than the Audi and 400kg more than the Porsche."

i have read enough, sadly…

The 718 and the TTRS are definitely in a different bracket than the 240. Sure they all have 2 doors but, the 240 is aimed to be more daily-driver than sports coupe. You wouldn't pit the S3 against the M2.

315kg heavier than the TTRS is not a good look, holy s***.

Then again if they already think the M-lite m240i is the winner of these three, imagine what they'll say when the G87 M2 lands...

Making the 2 in Mexico is a very smart move - will probably be the most profitable vehicle in BMW's line up, excluding capex. Speaking of which there's probably a couple billion of capex involved, and seems they skimped on getting that weight down. I don't know much about manufacturing vehicles but imagine supplying high quality steel or aluminum and pressing it into shape must be suboptimal in this new supply chain setup. 3,880 lbs for a 2 is just bananas.

Nice comparison test. Our beloved bimmer comes in first overall. Cayman is the best driver's car but weak engine holds it back. Audi is the fastest but least fun to drive. All three are great cars, can't go wrong with either one.
Have managed to miss this video, so grateful for you sharing.

Interestingly enough, all three cars were on my shortlist. Test drove all three, and the G42 was miles ahead of the others. Placed my order yesterday.

For me, the 4 cylinder 718 handled excellently but lacked a soul and didn't make me feel 'special'. The TTRS was quick, but interior felt like they'd taken the interior from the Audi SQ2 I recently sold, removed the MMI screen and wrapped everything in Alcantara... Can't deny it was quick, but handling was off and felt... not so nice inside?

I test drove the G42 M240ix last, and it blew the others away, both in terms of general driving feel and the refinement in the cabin.

Maybe the 718 4.0 GTS would sway me, but at £20K price difference after spec, it's not really a comparison...

Looking forward to the arrival of my Sapphire Black M240ix some time late this year.
