e90 Rear end PRE LCI to LCI conversion - Need pro's help :)

Hey guys,

I am about to order some parts for tail end conversion of my 07 e90 and have the following parts list:

Trunk Lid
Right rear inner tail light
Right rear outer tail light
Left rear inner tail light
Left rear outer tail light

Is there anything else i'm missing? Is there a harness that is needed?

I put the parts list through the BimmerSpecialist but cant find a part/part# for a harness.

Please let me know if I even need harness or if you have part#'s im missing to complete my build.

Thanks,

The tail lights will be plug and play. Like VtecAddict mentioned, you will need coding.

No, everything is plug and play. I have done a pre-LCI to LCI rear conversion.

Just find someone with an autologic tool. As for the pricing is up to them, I paid $90 though.

I bought LCI trunk from Tischer and LCI tail lights from EAS. Since I was doing a rear conversion, I also installed a Mtech rear bumper with a 3D style CF Diffuser and CF Rooflip to match.

The coding should be enough but the autologic tool will see whether you need to upgrade the FRM. I didn't need to upgrade my FRM. Worst case scenario, if you need to change the FRM, EAS sells the module for $369. I didn't need any harnesses. The LCI tail lights just used my stock wiring.

I just picked these up yesterday and I'm getting them painted and installed soon. I really do hope I don't need a new footwell module since my car has production date 03 2006.

Worst comes to worst, the lights will still work but with errors on the dash, right?

Thats correct. Worst case, you'll have 2 bulb-out errors. REGARDLESS of FRM version, they can be coded out. Idk how, just that a vendor in CA knows how to do it.

As for the harnesses, all they do is rearrange the order on the 4 wires of the inner lights. You can do thos easily yourself by popping open the connector and reinserting the wires in the correct order.

On my iphone now but Ill try and link the thread which shows how to do it, it was an M3post conversion thread.

...wish i could find a jet black trunk and some inner lights...

Hey yakev, I plugged the outer tails in last night and you're right. They're plug and play and work perfectly fine with errors on the dash.

I did notice that the LED turn signals do blink twice as fast as the regular ones and the turns signal clicking noise is also also ticking twice as fast like it's on steroids. Is this what you had with your car too?

Btw, I think you have a much better chance finding a jet black LCI trunk than it is for me to find a monaco blue LCI trunk. Either way, I did get a bargain the trunk and tails so I guess re-painting it makes it not as bad.

Howcome you went back to the pre-lCI tails?

To answer your question, I did have some coding done. Since my car is an 06, I was able to buy a cable for $35 (as opposed to the $100 cable for 07+). I coded out the bulb-check to the rear turn signals and they didn't blink fast when on (can't remember if they blinked fast right away, before the coding, or if I coded before testing them). Errors still came up, however. Some other coding is required. Contrary to the belief of many, a new footwell module (FRM) is not.

As for pre-LCI tails, I went back to blacklines since I'm still waiting on a trunk. LCI outer lights with pre-LCI inners don't look too good, so I have the pair of outers stashed until I find myself a trunk which doesn't require painting. More and more LCIs should begin to be scrapped (as value falls and more accidents result in totaled cars) and hopefully I can find an already painted trunk at a good price this way.

Here's the retrofit thread I mentioned:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...lights+tischer

And the key piece of info from it (how to rearrange the trunk light harnesses:

Just got the outer tails installed. Taking the trunk to the body shop on Tuesday to get it painted. This is how the pre-LCI inners look with the LCI outers.
