Is BavSound The Only Plug and Play Replacement Speakers Available For The G42 ?
The speakers seem nice enough. Plug and play, and specd to the G42 base system is obviously preferred.
https://www.bavsound.com/pages/build-your-kit-onepage $700 for (5) 4 inch speakers , and (3) tweeters..... Seems a bit steep. Obviously I could replace the factory speakers with any better aftermarket speakers - provided they fit. But having stock plugs are a huge plus. |

I found some other options such as BimmerTech, and a couple others. But BavSound seems to be the most sorted and simple.
And for what it's worth : The U.S. (and Canada) G42 only comes with 2 stereo options . The 676A - which is the standard HiFi system . and The 688A - which is the Top HiFi Harmon Kardon. The rest of the world has (3) levels of stereo : Base 676A 688A |

100% guarantee you won't like what you hear if you go with just the Bimmertech speakers and not the amp.
Recommended starting with amp and then speakers. Focal, Earthquake, Morel, Eton and Match are also making drop in speaker options. Just make sure the size is right, but the 340, 440 and many other cars share the same 4" and 4.5" mid ranges and tweeters. |

I also saw the Etons and Focals. Some other stuff on Ebay , but it would mostly be coming from Germany. And you are right about all the BMWs sharing speaker sizes and fitments. It would open up a lot mor possibilities if I could cross shop platforms. |

Definitely do the amp first. That’s the biggest problem. Then do the speakers. Then do the subs if you need it. Bavsound is a bit pricey but they are great. Totally plug and play and they have great support.
I replaced the hifi system in my F30 years ago and it was night and day. For the amp, there’s a guy on here that used to make/sell custom harnesses to make different amps plug and play. This was before Bavsound and others started making them specifically for BMW. He’s probably still here. I’ll have to check my messages. Not sure if they’ve changed the hifi amp with something better, but it’s pathetic. I put this beast in lol. Still going strong. The guy I sold the car to loves it. Edited: his name is Technic and he’s still active. You might check with him for amp recommendations. |
