South Louisiana...July...Track Day...Good Idea???
So I got an email from a colleague of mine that shows there is a track day at the local road course in late July. My car is a 2007 335i with 90k miles that I recently bought from my dad...by the time this rolls around I'll have the following mods...
Injen Intake Ebay FMIC MHD stage 1 or 1+ tune My dad had all of the scheduled maintenance done on the car so it's in good shape, and the spark plug light just came on so i'll be changing them in the next week or two. The car does not have an oil cooler though and I'm wondering if a July track day is really a good idea. The air temp will likely be over 90 and the humidity will be 80-90%...the course is about 45 miles from my house, 24 of which will be on a 2 lane bridge with no shoulders and limited opportunity to pull over... I've never driven the car in limp home mode...but I'm wondering how likely ya'll think it is I have to limp across this bridge... |

Focus on installing an oil cooler into your car. N54's love to go above 250* on the track even with an oil cooler installed.
The fmic is going to help a bunch, but a charge pipe is a must if you're going to go MHD. The only thing you might limp home from is a leaky charge pipe after the track day, and not from hot oil

Meaning if he ups the boost, a track day will surely destroy that stock brittle charge pipe. That thing is not built to handle 13+ psi for long

Perhaps it’s a moot point...I installed the Mhd stage 1 tune last night and my #5 coil promptly shit the bed...so now I’m waiting for new parts...

Cyl#5 is the hottest and noisiest so when cyl#5 goes out first is because of those reasons. However, coils take tool when they try to compensate for other components that are lacking in performance. I would replace the spark plugs too. Or you might have more blown coils soon.
