yep I did it too...I like it....but you will notice less torque down low, and you can feel when the turbos spool up now...I like it cuse it feels like driving a real turbo car..not some 1.8T Jetta.

DIY exhaust mod

Here's a good thread for the 335 "golf tee mod"

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=golf+tee+mod

Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone else feel like this mod makes the 335 a little smoother at low rpms? I had the actuator unplugged for months and got used to it, then just this week I plugged it back in...I immediatly noticed the car would "shudder" much more when coming off the throttle at low rpms in 1st, 2nd, and even a bit in 3rd (I got the manual trans btw). In fact even my wife asked why I was having so much trouble being smooth .
There wasn't a difference in the higher rpm range, but for around town driving the golf tee mod makes the off throttle response smoother for sure. I believe it has to do with backpressure, that is, having the flapper open reduces backpressure a bit and this improves the shuddering associated with the small turbos at low speed/rpms.
Now the question is, does the ecu adapt to having the flapper open all the time? Could this be why the shuddering got so magnified when I hooked it back up after so many months? Anyway, I unhooked it today after being annoyed by the head bobbing around town, and now the car is smoother again, go figure...

I am thinking about doing this too. Not sure if i want to go the bb route or unplug the connector. The connector sounds fool-proof and simple and easy to reverse...

i wouldnt do the connector. its easier to do the golf tee; also the computer will record it as a fault....not that it really matters...

i just put a screw in the end of the vacuum hose under the car and tucked it up behind the shielding. How much easier can you get, instead of pulling your tailight out and pulling some conector off and getting a fault code and all that.

I checked mine with the BMW tool back in the day. Just plugging the vacuum line with something throws no codes.

And by less torque, there is less of it downlow because of less backpressure. That valve stays shut most of the time until you get into boost...then it will open up. Thats how they make the car feel so linear right off the lot...I used to hate it cuse I could never feel the turbos spool up..the car would just get faster and faster..

With both exhaust pipes open all the time, it reduces the backpressure in the exhaust all the time....which is good because of less heat building up. Same goes when you put an exhaust system on any car..you lose some low end, but in exchange you get it back up top.

Plus I like the way it sounds when I start her up cold in the morning

Did you also cover the nipple with a vacuum cover or leave it alone?

i just did it with a bb bullet. It looks stock, so even if i take to the dealer they dont see a huge golf tee hanging. So the bb you shove it in, and just stick it back. The only thing i notice is that its louder on cold starts.
