Idrive not working after battery replacement
I initially posted this in the main E92 forum. I got some good advice, but now need to find a good mechanic in Melbourne to get it fixed.
I was away overseas for a 1 year and my 325i E92 was sitting unused in the garage the whole time. As a result, the battery was totally dead when I returned and would not charge. I even had a mobile auto electrician come out, who tried a number of things (including connecting a new battery), but could not get it going. In the end, I had to get it towed to the mechanics. Long story, but my regular mechanic who was a Euro/BMW specialist was unavailable to do the job, and he is now primarily working in another field. I went to a few other specialists who were either not able to do it for various reasons or were going to charge (in my view) quite exorbitant prices. In the end, I managed to find someone who was not a BMW specialist, but who had supposedly done this exact job a number of times before and his fees were reasonable. He seemed to know what he was talking about, so I gave him the job. He supplied and fitted the new battery and reprogrammed and coding CAS module and ECU control unit (that’s what it says on the invoice). He got the car going, but to my surprise and disappointment, the Idrive, both fobs and reversing sensors no longer worked. He told me the Idrive was dead and had to be replaced and that I needed a new set of keys from BMW. I didn’t ask him about the reversing sensors, as I didn’t notice they were not working until days later, but apparently everything is connected. However, as this mechanic was not a BMW or even Euro specialist, it makes me wonder if all this stuff really needs replacing or just needs reprogramming/resyncing? Or if there is some other problem? Fuses seem to be ok. Has anything like this happened to anyone in here? Did you have to replace he Idrive? How did you sort it? I am looking for someone who can properly diagnose this problem and help me get it sorted at a reasonable price. Preferably on the east side of Melbourne, but willing to travel a bit if required.
