plug it into the car, but don't start the program! Connect to your computer, turn the ignition on, THEN START the program. I had that issue myself. Also, the BT tool seems to favor an internet connection, although it doesn't need it (maybe that was just my situation)... hopefully that helps

My guess would be the drivers are not installed.
Here's a link to BT's quickstart guide: http://www.bavariantechnic.com/QuickStartGuide.pdf Double check that you didn't miss the driver install step. |

UPDATE:::
Here's what I did: **using links on bavarian technics website** -Remove and installed Internet explorer -Remove and reinstalled the Microsoft Net Framework -Removed and reinstalled Bavarian Tool Device Driver -Removed and reinstalled Bavarian Software Went to the car and -Plugged the connector to the OBD2 port -Plugged the usb to the laptop -Turned car ignition "ON" but not running -Opened BT software -Choose 3series "E90/92/93 -Choose 335i ECU code-I believe it was like M580 or something I don't remember right now. -Then I get the error message "Cable not ready, check status on status bar" After reading the quick start up guide on bt website, they said that when you first open the software when everything is plugged in, you should get a vehicle/customer information. I don't get that when I open it. It just goes to pick car model etc. What does that mean? Is something wrong with the bt cable I got? It was used bought from a member on here. This is frustrating. Am I doing something wrong here? Please help. Thanks Last edited by itsjappo; 02-11-2010 at 12:06 AM.. |

Im thinking you might've gotten a defective cable. If your connections are proper the MS80 should be PRE CLICKED when you choose E9x/92/93

Generally speaking, do you get an error if you're out of VINs on a particular cable?

if you are getting that far into the program and then its doing that, it might be the internet connection. Do you have wi-fi on? If not, don't run the welcome screen and run "short test." Because, as above stated, it sould be pre-clicked, BUT that only happens if your are online, because the VIN will be automatically synced with the program and autofill all the necessary boxes...

thanks for advices guys. to answer your questions:
-the cable green light is on -the software does not come preclicked -i have wifi on -I installed the drivers and everything needed to dl Again, it doesnt ask for vehicle/customer info so I was concerned that the VIN maybe full already. I bought this used from a member here. What to do now? any other things I should try? |

try using a different port on the laptop and let windows install the drivers.
Was getting cable errors on his. We reinstalled the drivers, no luck. Moved to another port, and voila, it worked. |

Sorry to revive this thread. Should the car be running or just key in the ignition? I did both and when the car was running I got a few more codes that did not pop up when the car was not running....

To the op...
I had this exact same issue. After calling BT, we tried connecting while the car was running. Still I got the same symptoms, problem ended up being I had a defective cable. Call BT and they will run you through a few steps then they will send you a replacement cable with a UPS call tag for the defective unit. Nice thing is they sent the replacement overnight, that's great customer service. It is rare that you would get a defective cable, but it is possible.

Same issue with connectivity so I did these things and it worked:
2011 Dell laptop with win7 1) changed to a different USB port 2) Downloaded and reinstalled driver off of bavariantechnic.com. Right as I hit "finish" on the BT tool driver installation wizard, the typical Microsoft window popped up asking to install drivers, I said "yes" this time (no the first time). Install finished, then another notification popped up in the lower right hand corner to install drivers. I let Microsoft search for drivers, it found "BE" or something like that. Once install completed, I hooked up the BT cable and opened the software. Clicked 335i MSD80, the next box was checked for me. Good to go after that. |

Also, connect the device to the car and laptop, and go to Device Manger (Control Panel -> Device Manager) and see if there is a Diagnostic tool under the list. |
