GIAC Stage 1 Flash with Map Switcher Impression w/Video
Don't turn DTC Off or this will happen if you don't know how to drive. The reality of it is, I turn DTC completely off. It can get you killed in other ways.
That is all..... But seriously, the thread title is misleading, because the map switcher tool is being drop shipped to me, so I couldn't switch back and forth between Stage 1 and Stock. But I am wondering why exactly I would want to do that with all the new found power under my foot? Thanks to Austin at GIAC and Justin at UroTuning in Tampa for working to get my flash setup and installed today. With DTC off, the rear was yawing quit a bit through 1st/2nd. At first I thought my RTABs/Subframe bushing were shot, the car's rear was pulling back and forth and I was sawing on the wheel correcting. I thought WTF is wrong with the suspension on this thing?!?! Then I turned DTC back on, did the same pull, and it is definitely working the rear tires loose and DTC is working OT in order to keep it straight. I am going to get to a local dyno and do some pulls to see what the peak is. I didn't do any baseline runs. I can switch maps back to stock and have a pretty close idea as to what my baseline is, then do a Stage 1 pull. I am completely satisfied with the smooth, strong power the GIAC flash offers. Having demoed a Procede, I can say they are very similar with their power delivery and gains...but I don't actually have a butt dyno, so I can't say for sure exactly where in the curve it is happening, but it is night/day compared to stock with both for sure. They all have dynos of their base stages/setups on a stock car and how the power is delivered over the curve. You can make your own mind up what is the best tune for your car and goals. I will report back with dynos and the map switcher tool when they are available. EDIT, video of map switcher in action. Dynos to come soon. EMBED: The first pull is from almost a dead stop with the stock map. The second is the Pump Stage 1 Map, but I had to get out of the way of some traffic. The 3rd run is the Stage 1 Map that is almost an identical pull as the first stock map run. 1st/3rd as a comparison should give a better idea. The difference between stock and the Stage 1 should be obvious. Last edited by techlogik; 09-29-2010 at 02:14 PM.. Reason: Video Added of Map Switcher in Use |

Great review - be sure to update when your handheld switcher arrives.

OP's Switcher/Tune was not originally from us, but we are literally minutes from GIAC's facility if we are ever out of stock for any reason.

If directed at me, please email or PM me your request and I would be happy to help so we do not take the thread off topic.

No, I went to my local dealer in Tampa, UroTuning. They didn't have that version of the switcher in stock, so GIAC will drop ship it directly to me. I don't really need it except to switch to the stock map for a close enough baseline dyno, or take it in for service. www.urotuning.com is Justin's website.

No, you missed his other responses to me on some other threads regarding modding/piggybacks/flashing and warranty.
Ignore list always works.

www.urotuning.com GIAC had to make a file for my car...but they did it in about 30 minutes. It probably took about 20-30 minutes just to flash the file to the car. Either way, they were all very helpful and things went real smooth!

The cars seems to have better throttle response and linearity below 2000rpms. In slow rolling traffic on the commute home, I spend a lot of time around 1500rpm with the AT. Seems like it is smoother and less hesistation and actual response with less peddle movement in genera in that rpm range.
Any input on this Austin? Was this by design or just a side effect?

It is something I almost immediately realized with the GIAC flash after stock tune...below 2K and really right at 1500rpm where I spend a lot of time is slow rolling traffic during rush hour, it is very responsive, and VERY smooth when you request to barely move and go on the throttle. Slight input to the throttle yields the appropriate amount of fuel and the car smoothly accelerates. The stock tune you are pushing on the gas wondering when the thing is going to start moving, then it lurches forward. Good work!
