Recall campaign for new software?
Folks,
I took my car in today for low coolant and intermittent problems with the passenger airbag. Sometimes the passenger airbag won't activate even though there is an adult sitting there. I found a TSB for this and I printed it out so that they can't say "Cannot Duplicate Customer Concern"... Anyway, while the SA was taking my information down, he tossed my keyfob into the BMW reader on his desk and immediately on his screen a recall campaign popped up. He said that it is related to the engine, so I immediately thought: that must be the latest HPFP software "fix". They are keeping the car overnight... I know BMW has issued a new software for the HPFP problems that deals with pre-priming the fuel system before starting the engine. What I did not know is that this is now a recall campaign... Can anyone tell me what software version should I be expecting to see on my car when I pick it back up? Thanks

The guy said RECALL. Also, I've been noticing that the dealership that I go to has been massively swamped with customer cars recently. I had business around that area for the past 1-2 weeks and they have cars queued up outside the service dock entrance which is very unusual... Normally they'll have 1-2 cars being dropped off and for the past 1-2 weeks they are barely able to handle the inflow...
Not sure if this is just a coincidence or not, but this is what I am seeing...

Yes, up to some production date in 2010. BMW is not doing a mailer for it. When they read your key your SA know if your car is involved, but basically it is for all N54 crs.

its not -- it is what is called a Service Action -- these campaigns have been done for years, to bring affected products up to an upgraded state. in this case its software. in the case of the old e32's it was front bushings. the SIB # is 13 09 10 for your reference. the software version you receive will depend on how quick the shop updates their system currently 2.39.x is out -- but you should expect no less than possibly 2.38.x -- cheers!! When was the last time you had your car in? Mine was updated a few months ago to E9X-10-06-501, which the tech said translated to something like version 2.3XX I think. Ever since this update I've also noticed the pump priming sound when I unlock the car, however I've not noticed longer start times like other users have reported. Anyway it wasn't described as recall to me, just an update.

On the other hand, my SA must not be very well informed. Surprise surprise...

Thank you for sharing this! At the bottom it reads that this software upgrade might require replacement of controllers. Does that mean they might have to change my MSD80 to MSD81?
Thanks

dont know how BT works it .. or if they do the software update wont depend on your SA, but rather the speed at which the new updates are applied to the ICOMs.. if the shop foremen do regular updates, you should get the fresh stuff.. but anything over 2.38.x is good to go. |

the software is like a deployed package with several elements -- so each modules software must be compatible for the whole thing to work. |

Hahaha! Cool. I know a lot older software running on top of some sort of *nix flavor. It was significantly more stable than any windows out there (still is) and it was a lot easier to develop and maintain...
